Whole Life Insurance Rates Knowledge Base
Can you transfer a whole life insurance policy to another company? I am unhappy with both the performance and service on a whole life insurance policy that I've had for about 11 years. Do I have any options? I'd never get the same rates now. I was told when sold the policy that dividends could pay the premium after 20 years...doesn't look like that is the case. Also, the cash value is LESS than the actual money i have put into it. Is this normal or do I have a crappy policy?
health and life insurance... reasonable rates and types? what type of health insurance would you reccomend? HMO PPO, other. what kind of rates do you pay? what would you consider reasonable for a man, woman, child family plan? (self employed, small business owner) what about life insurance? difference between term life, whole life, cash value policies, etc.
Is it recommended to buy whole life insurance for a child? A friend of mine recommended buying whole life insurance for my child. He said it was better than investing elsewhere. For example, you can get a 1 million dollar insurance which will be paid up by the time he is 18 at an annual rate of about 4500$. And this money grows to over 5 million when is 65 and is tax free. Withdrawal can be done at any time. What's the catch? Thanks everyone for the response. I see that the recommendations lean towards not buying it. Strangely enough, I was told that it is very common among families that have lived in this country for over a couple of generations and it's the immigrants who don't understand the benefits of this insurance.
Are there any whole life insurance / Roth IRA options similar to Colorado Banking? I recently spoke to an investment broker about an option offered by Colorado Banking that offers an IRA with a guaranteed interest rate where the amount you put in ($150 per month) goes toward a 80,000 whole life insurance plan and also into an IRA that would return 319,000 at the end of 45 years. I've done the math and it does work itself out, but I'm curious if there are any companies that compete with the same type of plan.
Northwestern Mutual whole life insurance? I recently sat down with a Northwestern Mutual rep. He showed me some great investment options. He also showed me their whole life insurance and how it was the best in the industry. He showed me how I could save liquid cash and make some nice money through their dividend rate. He also showed me how the insurance could offset my estate taxes to protect my assets. What do you guys think about the insurance vs. putting the money in something else?
Is purchasing a small amount of whole life insurance ever a good idea? I am a single woman in my mid-30s and unfortunately have not been able to save much for retirement. My 401k from a previous job has been all but decimated in the last year, and I am not eligible yet to join my new company's plan. I sought to open a Roth IRA, but the financial adviser my credit union recommended me to is actually an insurance salesman. He wants to sell me a whole life insurance policy with a $169k death benefit that would cost me $100 per month. I keep reading that whole life insurance is typically a bad investment unless you plan to keep the policy for more than 20 years. If I sign up for the policy, I would do so with the intention of keeping it as a long-term investment. The term insurance I have through work would only pay my beneficiary $35k, and I would prefer that my mortgage and other potential bills not be left for someone else to take care of if I got hit by a car and killed tomorrow. The projected rate of return over 30+ years looks good, but I do realize the guaranteed rate is the only, well, guarantee. And I understand my premium will stay the same unless I opt to buy more insurance. But everything I am reading from financial experts (Suze Orman, for instance) says it is better to buy term insurance and invest the difference. Is this a blanket guideline? Can a small whole life insurance policy ever be a good idea in combination with other investment strategies? I am so confused.
Second thought about endowment/whole life insurance and some doubt.? It is usually said that life insurance is not to be considered as an avenue of investment, it is an expense. Being totally unaware about details of insurances, I took LIC jeevan anand policy (endowment with whole life cover) one year back, to start with, for Rs10lakh for 27 years. I have paid premium twice, each time, about Rs39000. Now it is true that I will pay the sum assured amount to LIC over the life cover period, so apparently there is not much to gain from it unless I die (in that case the nominee receives the amount). However, if we consider the return, probably we have to carefully decide if the policy is really waste of money. Yesterday, I checked that LIC has declared accrued bonus for about Rs45000. (I hope I have read the number correctly) This means, by paying premium for Rs39k*2 over 2 years, I have got bonus for Rs45k (I assume this is considered separately from premium which is related to sum assured at the time of maturity). This is equivalent to 29% annual interest--not bad at all. This is where I am confused. If my understanding is correct, then taking an endowment or whole life cover insurance is not bad in terms of return. Please tell me if I am wrong. Here I have assumed that the accrued bonus will be given at the same rate. Of course, if it drops too low, then the result will be different. Please give your opinion about this.
Need advice on Whole Life Insurance Policy!? Just to make a long story short: I have had a life insurance policy since I was 22. I put in $1200/year. I am now 26. I was talked into getting this policy from someone who I respected but does not now, knowing they did not have my best interests in mind. I do not need life insurance at this moment, although I know there will be a need further down the line when I might have a greater chance of being uninsureable and the premiums will be higher. However, I am rated as preferred so I dont know if that will hold true. Should I surrender this policy? If I do I will have a check for $1331- basically I would lose out in $3469- BUT it might be better to lose that money now than to keep contributing $1200/year while the cash value grows very SLOW and my death benefit is only $176,000 anyways, which is NOT enough anyways... Any advice would be helpful. If I do surrender the policy I plan on opening a ROTH IRA and funding it with $200/month- the 100 from the ins. and 100 more of my money.
Switching terms or conditions of life insurance? Ok, so let's say I take out a 20 year term life insurance policy then after 13 years I want to convert to whole life. If I'm currently at a 1a rating, do I have to go through medical exams again and risk having my rating changed? In other words, what happens if I have a heart attack between now and then and then want to change policies? Would they then rate me 4c or something and it end a relatively larger amount?
27, single, no kids, great health, should i get term life insurance? I spoke to an agent and he recommended life insurance (since in the future I plan on having a family, kids husband). Term insurance for 10 20 or 30 years is pretty cheap ranging from 10-16 bucks a month for me, whole life is A LOT more. I understand the rate for whole life will just keep going up as i get older, but he said it would make sense for me to get term just so I can take the medical test and in the future 10 years (or before the term life insurance expires) I decide to get a whole life policy with the same company (met life) they would still quote me a premium at the health I had when I got my term policy (in case my health were to worsen).... Am i Making sense.. So basically he said to get the term insurance just so I can take the test now and wont have to in the future (20-30 years) which by then who knows what my health may be....My age will pay a factor at that time at how much whole life will be, but my health work for me and not against me.... What do you say? (then by 20 years I can really see if im going the route of having kids etc)
Should i cash out my life insurance and pay off debt? My parents got me a whole life insurance policy when I was young. Now I'm 24 and have a full time job (have worked here for over a year) and am receiving term life insurance from my work. Do you think it would be a smart idea to cash in my Whole Life policy and pay off all of my debt. Instead of paying high interest rates and barely getting any of the principal paid off i could pay it all off and save my money for other things. I dont need two insurance policies right?! I am engaged but I dont have any children, and dont plan to for another 5-6 years. P.S. I'm not going to work online, i have Bachelors degree. I'm worth more money than that. I can do freelance work if i have to. But I'm not looking for advice on getting an extra job, im looking for financial advice about Insurance.
Should I cash out one of my life insurance policies and pay off my debt? My parents got me a whole life insurance policy when I was young. Now I'm 24 and have a full time job (have worked here for over a year) and am receiving term life insurance from my employer. Do you think it would be a smart idea to cash in my Whole Life policy and pay off all of my debt. Instead of paying high interest rates and barely getting any of the principal paid off i could pay it all off and save my money for other things. I don't need two insurance policies right?! I am engaged but I don't have any children, and don't plan to for another 5-6 years. P.S. I'm not really looking for advice on getting an extra job, I'm looking for financial advice about Insurance. I have a Bachelors degree, I can do freelance work if i have to. I already work full time tho so I am avoiding getting another job. I would rather be broke than stressed to death, hah. I do own the policy, its in my name. I already talked to my parents about it and they are fine with any decision i make. Yall are giving me some really good things to think about. Appreciate the advice :) I'm just now starting to understand all of my insurance/disability/and 401k stuff, and man is it confusing!
Insurance case study question!? Jay, age 27, and Mary, age 25, were recently married. Jay has just become a CPA and is working for TaxFast as a tax preparer and staff accountant. His annual salary and bonus is $50,000. Mary is a high school teacher, earning $35,000 per year. They have recently made an offer, which was accepted, on a home costing $200,000. The couple has obtained a commitment from a lender for a loan of $190,000 on a first mortgage with a fixed rate for 30 years and a second mortgage for the remaining $10,000 which will be repaid in 5 years. The home is new, but the basement is unfinished. Jay and Mary plan to finish the basement over the next 2 or 3 years as time and money allow. Both are very capable of doing the finishing work without hiring outside help. It is anticipated the materials cost will be $20,000, and the value of the home will increase $30,000 when the finishing is completed. The couple plan on having two or three children over the next 10 years. They assume the children will go on to 4 years of college. Mary owns a 2007 Chevy HHR with a loan of $9,000 and Jay owns a 2006 Saturn with a loan of $5,000. Both have excellent driving records. Mary’s employer provides a Cafeteria Plan with choices of benefits including life insurance, single health insurance, dental insurance, long term care insurance, long term disability insurance, daycare, and 401K. The employer will pay the cost of any two of the benefits, and if she desires more benefits, can purchase them. Jay’s employer provides family health insurance, family dental insurance, and 401K. Long term disability insurance and long term care insurance can be purchased. Other facts to consider: Student Loans: Jay $25,000, Mary $15,000 Home is not in 100 year flood plain, but area was flooded in severe flood of 1997 Lender does not require flood insurance, but premium would be $300/yr Rate for H03 homeowner policy $1,260 per year. If replacement cost coverage on contents is purchased rate is $110 higher, replacement cost coverage on house would be an additional $200 Rate for liability insurance on autos $240 per year each, $100 deductible comprehensive and $250 deductible collision $310 per year each; $250 deductible comprehensive and $500 deductible collision $240 per year each. Life insurance rates per year(rate same for Jay or Mary) (must add $50 policy discount fee to each policy) 30 year decreasing term $.75 per thousand 20 year level term $1.25 per thousand Annual renewable term $.60 per thousand Whole Life $3.10 per thousand First to die coverage 20 year level term $1.75 per thousand Jay and Mary are your friends and ask your advice concerning a possible insurance program to protect them. They are dealing with an experienced insurance agent, but would like your input. Consider and discuss the following based on the above facts and your knowledge of insurance and risk management: 1.How should Jay and Mary structure their benefits from their employers? 2.What coverage’s would you recommend for auto insurance? 3.What coverage’s would you recommend for homeowner and flood insurance? 4.Would you recommend life insurance, and if so, explain the type(s) of policies and amounts you would suggest.
how would you rate AAA life Insurance procedures is anyone had to claim on it? I got this policy a few months ago and although I am very healthy, things can happen. It is not too large but I was just wondering if this company is easy to deal with in case something happen to me.? The whole idea is that if something goes wrong with me, my family get a break at least to mourn and recover...not to get a headache that they don't need.
whole life question? Okay im just asking this question to get some idea of the price of whole life insurance. Im really not planning on going out and picking up a policy right now or anything so no one tell me to go get some term and invest the difference. I just want to know this for educational purposes. with your best estimate, what will I pay per year for whole life at a mutual company like mass mutual or Guardian for the following three whole life policy sizes. 100,000$ policy 250,000$ policy 1,000,000$ policy. I am 23 years old, Male and in perfect health and would probably get the best rate for the lowest price. i am a non smoker also. Please just give me your best estimates on the yearly prices for those 3 policy sizes for a man of my age and health. again dont try to talk me out of buying these policies because i am not actually planning on buying ive asked this question 3 time already because people are idiots and wont answer my question. dont tell me not to get whole life. ive stated that im not going to get it. i just want to know its cost. answwer my question. dont just write what ever the heck you want.
Life insurance: Which would you pick? Scenario: 30 year old purchasing a $250,000 policy. Would you buy: A) Whole life insurance that cost $3100/year. By age 65, you will have $60,000 in the cash value. B) 35 year term that cost $1500/year. If you invest the difference of $133.33/month with a rate of return of 12%, you can have $866,000. Or even at a conservative rate of 10%, you can have $510,000. A or B? I wish I learned about term and investing the difference a long time ago.
Life Insurance help........? Hi I'm currently shopping for life insurance for my mom. This is my first time shopping for life insurance so I have no idea how life insurance works and do not know what I should look for. Can someone give me a few pointers? What kind of questions should I be asking when talking to an insurance agent? Also, I hear there's Term Life and Whole Life insurance. What are the difference between the two and which one is better? I'm actually looking for a policy that's around the 100K to 75K range, so what is the average rate? Which company are reputable and which company should I avoid? Any info, source, site, links, feedback are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Best Life Insurance to buy when your in your mid 20's? I am looking for an insurance company that will offer me whole life insurance (Is that when it last my entire lifetime right?)....I want a policy that will insure me for around $100,000 for my beneficiary. I want this policy to be with me throughout my life and will pay out regardless of the way I die ie cancer, car wreck, accident, murder etc...The reason I want to buy now is I want to lock in a rate that I can pay ($15-20/mo) that way I can always have that for however long I am alive...does anybody know a good insurance company where I can have all these things?
What advice can you give on rescinding a life insurance policy? So here's my situation: A friend of mine referred me to this insurance company called World Financial Group. So I went and the agent there told me a bit about the company, and I thought I liked it, so I decided to agree to join the company as well as become one of their clients. I also wanted a job where I would be able to work with my friend. Later, being more informed about the company, I learned that my friend had recruited me, by referring me, so I was technically his client and I also work under him. So what I regret doing was putting $2400 up front for a policy called the Indexed Universal Life policy. Basically, it's a whole life insurance policy but it also has a cash value, which grows in interest and helps pay for the cost of insurance. What I liked about it was it seemed like an appealing way to invest my money in, since I have some spare money sitting around in the Chase bank, with a meager .05% interest rate. Now I'm hearing that it's illegal to sell IUL as an investment plan. There are a lot that I don't know about this policy, though the agent did a lot of talking. I probably know more about how to sell the policy than I do on how the policy works. I was told that in order to work in this company, I needed to purchase an IUL policy, otherwise, my clients wouldn't trust me. Isn't that illegal business practice? To force an employee to buy something you sell in order to work for the company? So this IUL policy I have, I believe covers me 500k if I pass away. The premium is $150 a month. I don't remember what percentage of the premium goes into the cost of insurance, and what percentage goes into the cash value. The thing is I don't need such a huge policy because 1) I already have a 400k SGLI policy, which costs $27/mo, because I'm in the Army Reserves, 2) After the $2400 runs out, which will probably happen pretty soon, I still expect to be in College, which means I won't have a job and a stable income to continue paying the premiums. At first, I thought I would stay in this company, and make pretty good income, and use that income to pay for IUL. However, a lot of heavy recruiting goes into working here. There's no required quota, where you have to recruit so many people otherwise you're fired. There is, however, a quota for advancement. I have to recruit 3 new employees and find 3 clients in order to be promoted. I'm not the one who does the recruiting either, I'm supposed to bring friends, family members, acquaintances - anybody I knew - and have the Marketing Director do all the talking. Me, I just sit back and watch how an experienced agent does it, because that's how I will be expected to do it as well. Being so uncomfortable about what's required of me, the fact that I would have to get my friends, family, classmates from several years back, pretty much anyone I knew into this business that I hardly know a thing about, I simply stopped coming to their meetings. I don't want to be making money off of the people I just listed, and if I did, I'd rather it be a good service that I can feel I've actually helped someone. I have a feeling that this company targets less educated people. This companies promises to "educate people on how money works," and that it "focuses more on concepts rather than products." So far, I found it all to be quite hypocritical, because it seems to take advantage of people who don't know very much about finances, and get them to buy actual products, e.g. IUL. So long story short, I want my money back. I'm not sure if that option is still available because it was Dec 15ish of '09 that I signed all those contracts and had my $2400 withdrawn from my savings. I'm not sure if I'll be able to cancel the policy AND get my money back because of surrender charges. I also feel very uncomfortable talking to my agent about this because to be honest, I don't trust him. I think he's just going to keep pushing for me to keep this policy and get me to start recruiting people again. Even he says he's very biased when it comes to giving his opinion on the financial world simply because the company he works for, WFG, sorta brainwashes you and indoctrinates you with a certain belief system. For example, term life insurance is bad because you don't get anything out of it once the term is over and you don't die. That's why I am asking for advice here. I want someone whose income does not depend on me sticking with a policy to give me advice, preferably someone who knows about this stuff, a life agent perhaps, or a client who knows what IUL is. If worse comes to worse, I might have to rescind the policy, saying that I wasn't well informed when I decided to go ahead with it, and that the main reasons why I bought IUL was because I thought it was good to invest my money in and because I was required to get it because I wanted to work for this company - both of which are probably illegal business practices, correct? So if you know about fi
Life Insurance Policies? Can anyone help me with my homework regarding Life Insurance? these are the following: 1. Taylor is divorced with two small children. His salary is P100,000 per year, and he has no group life insurance. Should Taylor buy any life insurance? If so, should he buy term or whole life? 2. Other things than equal, explain how each of the following would likely to affect the growth of a universal life policy's cash value: --- The policy holder reduces the annual premium payment by 50% after five years. --- Market interest rates are stable for five years and then decline sharply and remain at the lower level. --- Researchers discover a cure for cancer five years after the policy is issued. thanks!
How will Obama change health insurance and life insurance? I drank on and off from the age of 18 to 19. When I was 19, I got a DUI and the court told me I was an alcoholic. I have not drank since the night of my arrest and have been sober 2 years. I am 21. I am depressed because I think that if I apply for a health insurance policy or life insurance, they will turn me down or give my lousy rates because I am an alcoholic. Why do I have to carry this label for life? I have only drank about 10 times in my whole life and I quit after my DUI. Would Obama change the stimga that is attached to former alcoholics and people labeld as former alcoholics? I am in great health, but all they will think of me as is a defective person. Should I vote for Obama????
Life insurance policy questions? I'm 35, I have two daughters (age 10 and 5 months) plus two step sons and a fiance. I'm at a point in my life where I want to purchase life insurance to take care of my kids. I work for the government and won't be legally able to retire for another 17 years. I only have one policy (paid for by my work) for 48K and this is not enough. I want to take out a policy for 1,000,000. Should I go with the 10 year term life insurance and re-enroll when I am 45? What are the chances that the lock in rates will go up or down based on historical evidence? If you were in my shoes what would you do? I've already considered whole life but honestly I can't afford the premiums on whole life for this sort of policy (although I haven't looked) and I'd rather invest the difference in IRA's for the next X amount of years. I'm considering either the 10, 30 or 35 year term. What do you think? Thanks for all replies!! I was thinking of taking out a 1-2 mil policy now for a 10 year term and decrease the amount as I get older and my kids get older. I figure when it's time to renew I can take out a smaller policy every so many years until the kids are old enough to take care of themselves and then when I am real old I will only need enough just to cover my funeral expenses and a little something for the kids/grandkids. DOes that help? I don't know if I am misconceived about the notion that if I go with a longer term and say I died just after the insurance took effect, my kids would get the amount of the insurance policy minus the premiums owed for that many years (say 35 year term life) - is this correct or am I overanalyzing?
Do we need to deregulate the health insurance industry? Insurance companies are one of the most regulated industries on the planet. Instead of putting in place a Universal Healthcare System, should we model health insurance around the life insurance model in place today? If we deregulate the insurance industry and allowed competition across state lines, it would be affordable. You can have whole health that grows in value until you need it like whole life. You buy it young to get the cheap rates. You have term health that can be bought in 1 year, 5 year, 10 year or 20 year increments like term life. Premiums would be based upon the policy you choose and a physical exam. 1 year term health would be the cheapest and would cover the basic healthcare and the cost adjusts every year we get older. Whole health would be the most expensive and if you didn't use the entire policy when you die, the retained value passes onto your children or spouse. To me this makes sense vs. UHC. Thoughts?
Whole life policy when im 22? I'm 22 and i got a whole life policy at about 200 a month. I don't know if i did the right decision. I figure i get a better rate when im young and in 20 years i don't have to get life insurance and worry about it. Should i be saving this money instead of paying for life insurance at this age? I have a stable job and can afford it. What do you think?
TECHNICAL life insurance 1035 and valuation question? I am an attorney. My client has a life policy, from 1995, with about $65k of cash value. It's with a high rated company and is a 90/10 blend of term/whole life. I therefore assume the terminal interpolated reserve, for gifting purposes, is about $65k. Client wants to "devalue" the policy before making a gift of the policy. Reading in Consumers Reports (or some such pub) I noticed that term rates have gone down drastically in the last 10 years due to mortality changes and I thus assume whole life have to. Could policy owner do a 1035 to a new policy, thereby reducing the cash value, and then gift the policy this year or next? That is, would the terminal interpolated reserve be much less than $65k at that time since the new policy would use the cash and therefore have a very low cash value? Second question, is this a stupid idea?
Life Insurance question....need advice!? Hi, I was at a family gathering and ended up talking to a cousin, who sells Insurance. I mentioned looking into getting a whole life policy and maybe throwing some business her way. She told me to give her a call when I was ready. After the party it suddenly dawned on me that life insurance applications get very personal, and you usually have to divulge your medical history. I have had multiple surgeries in the past 10 years. My relatives, her included, tend to talk a lot and I don't want her knowing my medical background. Although she told me to call her when I was ready, she's already CALLED ME asking for personal info to get me rate quotes. How can I get out of this, without hurting her feelings?
Am I wrong to think that permanent life insurance is a major ripoff? -Most premium goes to agent and company profit in the first few years. -penalty for trying to get out of the trap in the first few years. This is a nasty trick. - ridiculous cost (profit of agent and company) for insurance protection - borrow using your cash value as collateral at high rate. (don't have to pay tax? Is it really a benefit when you are borrowing and paying company interest?) - earn guaranteed interest arte after they skim off hugh chunk from your premium. They never want you to notice how much they keep and how little your premium goes to cash value - agent likes to present term to perm conversion as a feature instead of a trap, which is what it really is - agents pushing for cash value type insurance are either ignorant of what they are selling or intentionally misleading you with standard industry obfuscation - every feature/options are designed to milk higher premium to lure you into thinking that you are getting something good. Such as the cash value added to the death benefit - All the talks of cash value is, afterall, belonging to the insurance company, so what is the big deal? This is my impression only, the cash value insurance is one BIG ponsi scheme. It is called whole life because it is designed to make you a slave to the policy premium for your whole life.
Life insurance fraud yes or no? My dad age 70 had a 50k whole life policy and in 04 was sold a UL with a DB of 100k. We were told the $2900 premium would cover the new policy today they received a letter from NYlife that their target premium is $14,000. I know you life insurance guys cant tell nothing definitively w/o illustrations. I am asking for a copy of an inforce illustration run at current and guaranteed rate at the suggestion of a friend. I just want yout take on the whole situation if you understand what is going on and what you think will hapen to the policy.
Is there a low risk type of investment that can outpace an ROP life insurance's rate of return? Hi, I'm 34, f, non-smoker/healthy. Before hearing about ROP life insurance I was sold on a simple 30 year term life. But, however morbid as this may sound, I feel that all those premiums would seem wasted if I live beyond the 30 yrs. If the premium on a simple term life is $50/mo x 12mo x 30 yrs = that's $18,000 of money just given away. Now, say I pay $100/mo for ROP life, I'm going to get the whole $36K back. I'd love to go straight term and just invest the $50/mo myself, IF I just knew a type of investment that is mostly or all of the following: 1. It is low risk or risk-free 2. Low cost - about $50/mo 3. Will outpace ROP's rate of return (which, if my calculation is right, is $36K tax free if I outlive the policy and if I do not cancel before the term is up) So what do you guys and gals think? To me, since I currently do not have an investment plan, and only have a few months before I turn 35 and the premium tier's increase, the Math makes sense. Unless I'm missing something. Thanks everyone for your generous input. I have the discipline to set aside the $50 every month to invest (will just do a monthly "autopay" to the investment account). So I do have to ask - what is the minimum amount any of these mutual funds/ IRA / bonds that you've mentioned require to open? Will there be any fees to maintain and/or fees to add to it every month? Will I be tied to a certain term? Any fees to close prematurely? Sorry for so many questions, I still do not have an insurance / investment person. Thanks!

23 years old. Should I buy whole life now? The policy is participating and through a mutual insurance company (guardian Life). I figure after about 15 years of paying, the dividends could end up paying for the policy and id have it for the rest of my life for free. as the dividends keep accumulating i could use the extra dividends over the premium to either take as cash and have a lifetime income. am i missing anything? this sounds like a good plan. is anything i mentioned wrong or am i overestimating the benefit of buying this policy so young? I may not need the life insurance protection now that i have no family but I will eventually need it so why not get a good rate now.
Am I wrong to think that permanent life (cash value type) insurance is a major ripoff? -Most premium goes to agent and company profit in the first few years. - stiff penalty for trying to get out of the trap in the first few years. This is a nasty trick. - ridiculous cost (profit of agent and company) for insurance protection - borrow using your cash value as collateral at high rate. (don't have to pay tax? Is it really a benefit when you are borrowing and paying company interest?) - earn guaranteed interest rate after they skim off hugh chunk from your premium. They never want you to notice how much they keep and how little your premium goes to cash value - agent likes to present term to perm conversion as a feature instead of a trap, which is what it really is - agents pushing for cash value type insurance are either ignorant of what they are selling or intentionally misleading you with standard industry obfuscation - every feature/option are designed to milk higher premium to lure you into thinking that you are getting something good. Such as the cash value added to the death benefit - Cash value is, afterall, belonging to the insurance company, so what is the big deal? This is my impression only, the cash value insurance is one BIG ponsi scheme. It is called whole life because it is designed to make you a slave to the policy premium for your whole life.
Insurance quesion, help!? Cash value life insurance is more expensive than term insurance because a. it is usually sold to older people who have higher mortality. b. higher rates of interest are earned on term policy investments. c. whole life is subject to adverse selection. d. the whole life contracts include both a protection element and a savings or investment element. e. none of the above. Is this one C? Past efforts to address the growing imbalance between tax-paying workers and social security beneficiaries have included a. increasing the social security (FICA) tax rate. b. increasing the maximum income subject to the social security tax. c. increasing the normal retirement age. d. taxing part of social security benefits. e. all of the above. This one E? The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) contains provisions that a. allow continuation of group health insurance by employees and certain dependents upon the occurrence of designated events. b. apply to all employers offering group health insurance to employees. c. require an employer to pay the cost of continuing former employees' health insurance for up to 36 months. d. allows terminated employees to continue their group health insurance for up to 36 months. e. all of the above. Whole life vs. term--can you prove higher return with whole life? Someone posted a question about whole life vs. term and someone claimed they could prove whole life had equal or better return than buying term and investing the difference in the stock market but the question was closed before the answer was completed. Here's another chance for the whole-life apologists. My contention is that high fees and commissions on whole life will overwhelm any investment advantage. I also want to see this demonstrated for middle-class people, not multi-millionaires who get huge benefits from tax shelters. Assumptions: 20% marginal income tax rate (15% federal, 5% state) Buying insurance at age 30 and stopping/cashing out at 65 Stock market return is 10% per year and profits are taxed each year at long-term capital gains tax rate. Difference in premiums invested at start of each year. Reasonable amount of insurance coverage--$100,000, or $250,000 or so, not several million. Any advertisements or links to scams will be reported for abuse. Like I expected, the whole-life apologists are attacking my assumptions. First, that I shouldn't end the policy at 65. I'm assuming my kids are grown then, and surviving spouse will have Social Security (maybe), a home, and other assets to survive on. If it's more beneficial to convert the policy to an annuity at 65 and save taxes on my (presumably reduced) income, I will consider that possibility, just give me some facts. Someone said dividends are taxed at a higher rate than long-term capital gains, but I think that's wrong. Regardless, the rates on either are pretty low and I don't see that as a major factor. Someone else said term insurance would be a loser if my health failed before 65. If that's the case then I'll admit I'm comparing apples and oranges. Is there term insurance that doesn't expire as long as you pay the premiums, or does term insurance mean you'll lose coverage at the first sign that you're odds of collecting are higher than average?
Change of Cap for Equity-indexed Universal Life (EIUL)? I was sold a Global Index Universal Life by Western Reserve Life. The index is a mixed bag of SP500, European Index and Hongkong Hengseng. high cap is set at 13.25%, and the bottom is set at 2%. When I ran a simulation for the past 20 or so years, I can expect a compounding annual return of 9% from the product. Comparing with the return of SP500 at the same period, the return is a dismal 6%. Investing in stock does not match the life insurance even I added another 2% of dividend from stock. Overall, in spite of heavy charges and expenses, this UL outperforms the scenario of investing the same amount of money in Roth IRA and a term life. Therefore, I am pretty attracted to it. The only uncertainty is that the insurance company can change the cap at its will, and so I am worrying about the probability that the insurance company will lower its cap. Some of my argument is 1) Can insurance company consistently makes more than those on stock market for a long long time, I mean, my life time? I know the money is not invested in stock, but on fixed-return investment and call options (learned from a website). I heard many times that 90% of mutual funds cannot outperform index fund for a 10 year horizon. and I guess some of the mutual funds use sophisticated strategy, which could include fixed-return investment and options. If these mutual fund cannot outperform index, can insurance company? 2) Of course, insurance company need not to worry about how much return they offer now, because they charge a heavy "per unit charge" (about 25% of target prenium) for the first 8 years (in the product I was sold). That is a reserve they keep for future uncertainties. Anyhow, the Equity-indexed life insurance is only around for 9 years, and the company I was sold may have the product for only several years. By that, I mean the possibility of reducing cap won't be seen in the near term. But I will be locked in the product for life time (of course, I can surrender and pay tax, or transfer the cash value to another product, which is not a good idea either.) 3) I want to know some history of related products. a) Whole life is indexed to the rate of saving account. Were there any decrease of returns in history? Are they big? b) I heard on a website (forgot where it is exactly) that indexed annuities are offered earlier than indexed UL, and some of these annuities got into trouble, and the problem is spilled to EIUL now. Can anybody offer a little more insight on this?
Whole life vs term debate? Hi Everyone. I just started a new career with the guardian insurance company last week. all I hear about is the debate with whole life verses term and investing the difference. I wanted to find out which one really was better for my clients. i did a little tests using the software that I get from my company which will give you the prices of an insurance policy and and all of the cash values and everything else you would want to know to help find which product is right for your client. here was the test.... i ran the numbers for a 25 year old male, preferred no tobacco rating. i ran these numbers for a guardian level 30 year term policy and a guardian paid up at 99 whole life policy both for a $1,000,000 face amount. here are the results. Results: the whole life policy costs 8,560 dollars per year. the term costs 1,340 per year. a difference of 7,220$ after the 30 (year 31) year period the whole life policy would have a cash value of $682,203 and a death benefit of $1,834,475. had you invested the 7220 a year for 30 years and got about an 8% a year return (about 6.7% after taxes) you would end up with $689,580 with a death benefit of 0 since your 30 years was up. term: 689,580 in cash and 0 death benefit. whole 682,203 cash value and 1,834,475 in death benefit which will increase every year till death as long as premiums are paid. seems to me the whole life is the better deal as cash is about equal but the death benefit is still there and is very large. The ending values assmues that dividends will be paid on the policy at the same rate as 2007 dividend rate. those can obviously go up or down and guardian has been paying dividends since 1860. what do you guys think?? great post insurance guy. you are right. it always depends on the client but at least from my illustration you can see that whole life is a horrible product like most everyone on here says. sometimes it might make sense. from my illustration a 25 year old who does have the cash flow to pay his 8,000 premium and is trying to save for retirement might really be a great fit for this whole life policy. someone who can not afford to put away that much might not be a great choice for my illustration. sorry guys, in my previous response there i wrote that whole life is a horrible insurance product. what i meant to type was that whole life is not a horrible product. To Ronkpaws: when reading your comment, i cant help but think you did not even read my origional post. your example of the $25 vs 100 premiums, buy term and invest the difference, is the exact illustration I made, just on a larger scale. and you can clearly see the results of my illustration.
How do I purchase life insurance? I'd like to purchase a life insurance policy, but have no financial savvy past Google. How do I go about this? What are the pitfalls? Do I need an agent? Any recommended companies? (It would have to be rated at least A- or better by A.M. Best). I'm a twenty-one year old unmarried non-smoking student. I'm in good physical health, though there's some family history of heart disease. No dangerous activities. (It must look odd for me to be checking into this at my age. It's a long story, but rest assured I don't plan on dying anytime soon.) I'd like an affordable policy with a payout of 105,000$ or a little over. Simplicity and good customer service would be nice of course. I'm pretty busy with school as it is. Finally: term or whole? I understand most people think term is the way to go, but considering my youth and good health would I be better off with something permanent? I know I'm going to want to be insured until my eventual (assumedly far-off) demise. Thanks for your time.
Long term Savings Gift to child? I would like to give a savings gift to my Goddaughter for first birthday and subsequent birthdays. The goal is to save money to apply towards college, but I am not her parent so I can not force her/guarantee that monies will be applied towards college expenses. Reading has revealed that EE and I-government savings bonds are low yield and may not reach face value. Whole Life Insurance was another suggestion but fees could be high. Stock certificates, mutual fund investments will yield high returns over the 18 years. Certificate of deposit was also suggested but what if i-rates increase over 18 years and I am locked in? Education IRA would require withdrawals to be towards education expenses to qualify as tax free. WHAT IS YOUR RECOMMENDED SAVINGS GIFT TO MAXIMIZE INTEREST?
can anyone explain an IRA in layman's terms? I'm thinking about buy whole life insurance, but have heard from a few people that an IRA is anothe option that may prove to be more successful as far as "saving". 1.What are typical interest rates of an IRA 2. can I borrow against it as I can with a whole life insurance policy (and taxfree if so)? 3. What tax credits do I receive and/or tax penalties, if any? I don't know the difference between Roth and Rollover or Traditional, and I don't really have a clue about 401k...why don't they teach us this stuff in HS or at elast in COLLEGE??<--that was ant, not question, sorry...

Whole Life almost paid up, should I just pay it, or cash out? my parents started me a WL policy worth 200k, when i was 13 and it's been almost 20years and it's 2-3years away from being paid up (per my agent), should I just suck it up and pay it up or should I cash out now? he said the policy is getting an interest rate of 5.5% hopefully this all makes sense, as i'm not that insurance savvy.. thanks! I don't need the money. and as I research more on WL, I'm reading tons of opinions on how big of a waste and scam it is. I'm seeing the situation as, since the market is so beat up right now, I'm sure I can do better than the 5.5% in a mutual fund, in the long run.

Need help with my Savings Retirement Plan at age 24? I've got some stocks and money in a Roth 401k. I also hav about $10k on the side to "cushion" on. I told my friend I want to retire with $500k/yr at the age of about 60. He suggest I should not only restrategize whats kind of stocks i have invested, but also consider putting away in a Roth IRA & Universal Whole Life Insurance plan. The Insurance part kind of worries me, cause i have no kids or debt. I might someday, but it wont be for atleast another 5-10 yrs. the only thing that appealed to me about the insurance was that I could take a loan out if need to buy a car or make the down payment on a home at a very low loan rate, and that it wont be taxed. Also, making an interest rate of 11% seemed nice, especially since it beats the hell outta bonds. I spoke to a friend about it, and i heard you can do the same for IRA's & 401k's, making me doubly confused. How should I invest my money and why??
Will only having insurance on 1 car affect rates? I have 2 cars, and have only had one of them insured. My wife is not the best driver, and so I got full coverage for her, but I don't do a whole lot of driving (maybe 2 - 10 minute drives per month) and have not had an accident in my life, so I did not get coverage for my other car (it is a beater). While I can handle normal weather driving, I am nervous about the chance of being at-fault or split-fault due to weather conditions, and wanted to get liability coverage during the winter months. Will the fact that I have not had this car insured for a few months impact my rates (~6 months)? Or will my coverage on my other car be considered as having been insured for all price purposes (I am a listed driver on that car)? Thanks! PS: If you just post a link or blatently advertise an insurance company with "great rate", I will flag you. I am asking a general question, not where to go to get a policy.
Why are there so many flaws in evolution proposals and why are evolutionist afraid of factsory? The Greatest Magic in the World: Everything We See From Nothing at All We can illustrate the embarrassment of modern science by considering its attempt to explain the origin of the material universe from either 1) literally nothing or 2) virtually nothing. Equally embarrassing is its attempt to explain life from non-life. In fact, two of the most unbelievable scenarios of the modern evolutionary story are that 1) nothing created the material universe and 2) lifeless matter created all living diversity in its endless life forms. Both of these scenarios are so implausible that, rationally, they must be considered nonsense. In fact, both assumptions are flat out impossible. The Probability of Life The laws of probability govern all kinds of daily activities from calculating insurance rates to large purchase orders. The science of probability is one of the trustworthiest disciplines there is. And it has a logical bearing on the issue of origins: The laws of probability are proven trustworthy. The whole of science and every day practical living is based on the reliability of the probable happening and the improbable not. One need do no more than be consistent with this accepted standard of reality when considering what to believe in relation to the origin of life.1 When one reads through the literature on evolution that discusses the probability of the evolution of life, one finds all sorts of euphemisms for the word impossible including “terribly low;” “not conceivable;” “infinitesimally small;” “highly implausible” and “unimaginably small.” It would appear that these terms are used because there is no other choice. To really believe in what is impossible is absurd. Evolutionary scientists do not want to be seen as believers of the absurd. Boris, if you were in the science section, then you would still have a lame answer. They may be smarter than you, but they fail in comparison to me. Source: My A's in all areas of science at the college level. Ihvinny, said this and by this scientific assumption it would be reasonable for any scientist to believe and conclude that it is possible that God created all. "Just because something isn't likely to happen doesn't mean it can't happen" You see, this is why intelligent man has concluded that the field of evolution is actually a religion based on their religious belief and they are called "evolutionist". Am I a "gold digger" because my family had such tragic circumstaces? I'm 24 and money is VERY important regarding the man I will marry. I am only going to marry. I think this is because growing up I had a fantastic childhood with middle-class parents (my dad worked and my mom stayed home). Except my father came down with a terrible illness and then couldn't work. He was self-employed. Then, his health insurance rates sky-rocketed due to his pre-existing condition. It was depressing realizing that his whole life and health depended on money. If they couldn't pay the health insurance then if his health deteriorated he would not receive health care and die. A friend of mine disagreed with my "money buys happiness" scenario and explained that if you live in a trailer with parents making $30,000" you can have a fantastic life...But then I shared my whole story and she explained that most people don't have those tragic circumstances that require money.... So what do you think? I think money does buy happiness when you are facing a tragic circumstance... Also, I myself was recently the victim of a personal injury situation. The thing that is standing between my health and well-being is again money....I filed a lawsuit in which I will eventually be paid but it will be years down the line. If people experienced these tragic circumstances would they then realize how important money is?
I got into a small fender bender, my fault, damage is about $700-$1000 to the other car.? my car is fine, just a tiny dent in the front. I am a male 24 year old in Washington state, with a clean driving record (only one ticket in my whole life which was about 2 years ago (red light ticket) and this is my first accident). my question is, how much will my insurance rates be increased? would I be better off paying out of pocket? also, the officer at the scene issued me a $170 ticket. my second question is, is it true that both the claim and the ticket will raise my insurance rates? that isn't fair that both would raise my rates for the same incident.
How should dental insurance pay for ortho treatment? My wife and I bought two insurances for our daughter's ortho treatment(braces) for 2008. My wife's insurance covers $500 and my insurance covers $1000 for life time payment. I terminated my insurance for 2009. The dentist office billed the insurance company for at least $1,500 in Sept 2008. The insurance paid $500 for my wife's insurance and only $650 for my insurance. The insurance company said that they pro-rated my insurance for the whole procedure. Since I terminated the insurance in the middle of the procedure, I am not honored by the full payment. My question is why my wife's amount is fully paid but not mine. Both insurances are from the same company. Mine is more expensive than my wife's. The whole procedure costs us $6000. $1,000 is only a portion of it. $1,000 was charged by the dentist for the service provided in 2008. Why the insurance did not cover the cost which I paid Premium for? Is this common for all dental insurance for ortho? Is there a place to complain? Any help is highly appreciated.

Muslim Life Insurance - whole or variable? I have a client who is Muslim and I understand the issues with earned interest. Client would like to get permanent insurance, but he was not sure about whole life being OK. The cash value does earn a return, but the company does not state a fixed interest rate. Dividends are a return of premium based on performance of the entire product (such investments, expenses and actual death claims). Another alternative is variable life, where the cash value can be put into separate accounts (similar to mutual funds) and not interest bearing. Any opinions on if whole life is acceptable for Muslims?
APY Question about rates of return on investment? A friend is trying to sucker me into a whole life insurance policy and I want to show her exactly why this is a terrible policy. The positive that she gave me was that after putting in $110,600 over a 31 year period, and a period of letting the account "grow" for four years, I would be able to then take out $14,368 for the next 31 years, and still have $95,292 for the cash value of the account. So the benefit after 66 years would be $540,700 with an investment of $110,600. What's the percentage on my rate of return. Rapture - I'm aware that it's a terrible plan, hence why I said, "sucker me into a whole life insurance policy." I'm also aware that Term is the way to go. Dave Ramsey preaches this all the time. I refuse to sever a friendship because I believe she honestly believes in this product. I'm hoping that I can show her why it's a terrible plan.
Please help me save this person's life? I'm sure you've all heard of Kandee Johnson, a famous make up artist who is best known for her work on YouTube. She made a vidoe yesterday that really touched my heart about her friend who currently has three weeks to live. She has come down with an extreme rare disease that could possibly be sps (stiff person syndrome) where basically she cannot move a muscle in her body. She has been living on her bed as a prisoner in her own home for the past 3 years. The only time she ever leaves the house is in an ambulance to go to the hospital. She doesn't have insurance and the insurance companies are NOT being good to her at all. She doesn't have the money for treatments and medial bills and is in serious need of help. Her husband Brian says that she is his dream girl and he left school and stopped his whole life to stay at the house and take care of her. She is in fashion design school and wanted to start a family and is not ready to die yet. PLEASE help her! 20/20 did a story on her a few years ago but they didn't do a follow up story and it basically did nothing.. WE NEED TO SPREAD THE WORD! Even just viewing or rating or favoriting this video can help save her life. If this video goes viral than maybe it will reach someone who could help. Who knows, maybe someone reading this question right now is the one person we need to save her life. The link to Kandee's video is right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jU29dM_rKXM Thank you to all who can help :) Here is ABC's (20/20) story about her... http://abcnews.go.com/2020/sickness-health-couple-sticks/story?id=8250804 I believe there are actually facebook campaigns. Thank you sooo much for watching!
Medical cost - insurance - medicaid - unemployed and confused -? My situation is probably very common nowdays with the high rate of unemployment currently - I just want to ask this because I am not sure of all the rules regarding different programs related to medical care and coverage - I have been unemployed since Dec 2008, I have no medical insurance. I looked at the general rules for "medicaid" in Maryland where I live - it appears to qualify, you cannot own a home, have any cash savings in the bank (or no more than $99 anyway) and cannot own a vehicle. Basically you can't have any assets. My doctor wanted me to get some diagnostic tests done for a back pain problem I am having right now (MRI, scans, etc) - and of course to pay cash for them might run into a couple thousand dollars, which I can't afford right now. (I barely have money to pay mortgage, bills, food, etc). Is there any program or anything out there which could help a worker who was laid off thru no fault of their own, has no med insurance, and can't really afford to pay for expensive med care with dwindling cash savings? Is there no other safety net for us americans without medical insurance? I am starting to think the only way a person can get any help in this country is to have absolutely no assets (atleast on paper) and go onto welfare, public assistance, medicaid, food stamps, section 8, etc ?? Why is it that there is just one extreme or the other, with no help for those "in between" who are caught and trapped? We need medical coverage and help too - My back problem is terribly painful and I can barely move, but yet I asked the doctor and nurse today when they gave me the RX for the MRI's and tests, and they said to just ask the hospital if there are any programs or payment plans. Its like at the grocery store the other day, I had only 50 dollars cash and was doing the coupons and calculating down to the penny every thing I bought (buying mostly the weekly store specials on sale) and then the young lady in front of me purchased 4 grocery carts full of food (all name brands and largely sodas and junk foods) for a total of over $600 and the person paid for every bit of it with her WICA card (food stamps).. Why is it this country is one extreme or the other, with seemingly no help for the working man or woman who has worked hard their whole life and is temporarily in a financial jam right now, and needs a little help ?? Can someone tell me if there are some programs maybe I am overlooking that I could apply for ?? Thanks very much.

Any REALISTIC ideas how we can scale back our budget? Here's a breakdown of my husband and my monthly obligations: Mortgage: $1206 Car payments: $466 Electric: $120 Natural gas: $66 Verizon: $70 Cable/phone/internet: $80 Water/waste disposal: $75 Life insurance: $85 Auto insurance: $174 Student loans: $120 Credit card: $51 Currently, my husband is getting a lot of overtime, and we are bringing home $4,400 a month. However, in June his overtime will end for about 8 months, and his income will settle back down to approx. $3,000 per month. Both of these figures are after health insurance, taxes, and our 401(k) contribution of 4%. I am extremely grateful that we are making what we are in this terrible economy, but it's very frustrating because once the overtime ends, we will just be making it, with room for few extras, and I just don't know what else we can cut down/cut out. Our mortgage is not going to change; in fact, it could very well go up if our homeowner's insurance premium goes up or our city decides to raise the real estate tax; We owe 3 more years on our cars, and $466 TOTAL between both payments is quite cheap, and it's silly to trade one of our cars in for something cheaper since we have already paid so much on them, so there's not much to do with that; Our natural gas, electric, and water bills are right on par with the local average - we are very conscious of our lights, heat, and water usage, and can't cut these bills back anymore without major discomfort; We are in the middle of a 2 year contract with Verizon and are on the cheapest plan available (they actually don't even offer our plan anymore... we are grandfathered. The cheapest plan currently for two lines is $20 extra a month); Our phone/cable/internet bill cannot be reduced - I work at home and depend on the house phone, since my husband and I share a mere 500 peak minutes on our cells, our cable is the minimum package at $12 a month - basically just prevents us from needing rabbit ears, and our internet is the cheapest available in our area; We just acquired life insurance, which is $50,000 each whole and $100,000 each term - that's a necessity, especially since we are 23 and 24 and locked in our rate for life; Our auto insurance could be lowered by upping our deductible to $500, but I called and asked about it, and it would only make a $30 difference every 6 months, which doesn't seem worth it considering we'd be upping our deductibles so much. The student loan... well, there's not much we can do about that. We could get it financed for more than the standard 10 years, but then you are just spending SO much extra money in interest. We have recently paid off $1,100 furniture, $500 department store charge, $1,500 Best Buy, $1,600 on my credit card, and now all we have left is my husband's credit card, which has a $3,000 balance. Most of this debt was from early in our marriage and we decided quickly that we didn't want to carry debt, so we have been working hard to pay it off. Before my husband's overtime ends, we will have paid the credit card completely off. So... any realistic ideas of how we might cut our expenses? All the articles on the internet are so cheesy or unrealistic. For instance, I'm not in dire enough of a situation to reduce my heat to 60 degrees! -- OUR income will be $3,000. Not just his. The insurance deductible reduction would only lower my auto insurance $30 every SIX months, not every month. I wish it'd lower it $30 per month! :)
I am thinking of entering the nfl next year and thinking of buying life insurance? I am thinking about going into the nfl next year, does it matter when I buy life insurance. Also term versus whole and what about disability. To rates increase since I am a professional athlete. Does it matter if I buy it before I am technically a pro athlete? Supposed to be a 5th rounder, making about 700k my first year I have friends that work with northwestern mutual and was curious if they would be able to help me out?
Cancelling Ameriprise whole life insuance? I can no longer afford the 325 a month for whole life insurance. I have approximately 25K cash value. I can get a term policy for around 225 a month. Do I lose the 25K value? Can I have my dividends on the 25K pay my premium? It seems to have a pretty decent return. It says guaranteed rate of 4% return. Last years return $15,017.03 Additions PremiumPayments $3,900.00 Total Additions $3,900.00 Withdrawals Cost of Insurance -$1,731.26 Total Withdrawals -$1,731.26 Change in Value Fixed/ Variable Account Results $4,522.01 PremiumExpense Charges -$195.00 Total Change in Value $4,327.01 Ending Value $21,512.78 I need some serious help. I don't know what to do! The policy is about 12 years old. My husband was the bread winner at the time this is no longer the case. The policy is for 350K he is 44 and a smoker. I get 3 times my annual income from my work for about 15 bucks a month (approximately 216K all together) . The 350K policy has a rider that covers me as well. I am 42 non smoker and pretty darn healthy. My husband took huge paycut after being on unemployment for 18 months. This economy sucks!
What happens if I fail a life insurance drug test? My husband and I went to go get him a life insurance policy today and they had previously asked us if he smoked cigarettes. So we admitted to him smoking cigarettes and understood that we would have to take the higher payments and rates. Then, next thing I know, after my agent gives my husband the oral saliva test to check for nicotine, I ask, "So if we admitted to him smoking, why do we need to take this test?" Finally, he admits that it is a drug test. We had just smoked a joint the night previous. Anyway, the whole point is, if they come back with a positive for marijuana on him (which I'm sure they will) where do we go from here? Will we also lose our car insurance? Should I just switch to another company? I could really use some guidance here, I'm freaking out. My drug use does not affect my life. I work full time, pay my bills, and have my priorities in order. I would like a serious answer. I am not here to be judged, nor do I judge others. Thanks
Important Questions about Speeding Tickets for First Timers. Urgent? 09/30/09. I just got a speeding ticket earlier this morning, I live in Bakersfield Ca 93301. I was driving 60 in a 45 road, so i drove 15mph over the speed limit. I've been driving for 3 years in California and I had a very clean driving records not until today. The officer wrote me a speeding ticket and told me that i will be receiving a letter of notification or watever. My court date to appear is 10/22/09 at 7:30am. theres an options on the back of the ticket in which u have to pick either 1 or 2 choices when u appear to the court. So i picked going to traffic school and appearing to the court because i want to avoid the point count on my DMV record, but i still have to pay the bail as a fee. So heres my questions: If I go to a traffic school and pass it, will it lessen the bail amount of my speeding ticket? Is going to traffic school not gonna affect my car insurance rate? Cos i heard that once u get a ticket your Insurance is gonna be alot higher than ur original rate without tickets. But it says on the ticket, by going to traffic school may be able to avoid the point count by completing traffic school which the point count is that it will be charged to my DMV record and my insurance will be adversely affected. So i wonder if thats all gonna clear up once i completed traffic school. How much exactly is the fine for a speeding ticket in california? I heard that it varies how much MPH u drove over the speed limit and i went 15mph over the speed limit. So I wonder how much is that gonna cost me. This is my very first ticket in my whole life. So if you guys could help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Very Much!

Was the whole push for gay marriage in Canada limited to a few political activist? Are there any whole life insurance / Roth IRA options similar to Colorado Banking? I recently spoke to an investment broker about an option offered by Colorado Banking that offers an IRA with a guaranteed interest rate where the amount you put in ($150 per month) goes toward a 80,000 whole life insurance plan and also into an IRA that would return 319,000 at the end of 45 years. I've done the math and it does work itself out, but I'm curious if there are any companies that compete with the same type of plan.
Is everything that Republicans fear about health care happening right now? This is an attempt at reasoned discussion, please don't answer until you've read everything and then please respond point-by-point. Thanks! ================================== Paying for other people's care: Insurance rates are based on how many people in the whole plan get sick...if you take care of yourself and never get sick, 100% of your money will go to funding care for strangers who possibly don't take care of their health. I have also heard the argument that people should just go the emergency room, but the people who do this are generally not concerned with their credit score and are not going to ever pay for the thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars in care for a serious illness. ER care is the most expensive form of care available and you are currently bearing this cost through taxes. Rationed care: Again, if you have private insurance you are already in a pool with other people who are insured by an organization with a fixed amount of money to spend on everyone's care. There are two important differences, however; a private insurer has a profit motive to find ways to deny coverage while the government does not. In fact the elected officials who are behind the system know that they can always be voted out of office, so they have a motive to make sure people are getting what they need. Do you really think all those other industrialized Western countries with full universal coverage routinely deny care to all elderly people, and everyone just accepts it because they're wacky foreigners who don't have any feelings?? Death Panels: This seems to refer to one of two things, either a panel to determine whether someone is worthy of living or a consultation with a doctor to discuss a dying family member's care. In the first case, see above. In the second case, this is what normal people already do regardless of where the doctor's money is coming from. In the proposed legislation, such a consultation is OPTIONAL. In any case if you are worried about people dying, then why aren't you worried about the estimated tens of thousands of people who die every single year due to preventable illness and lack of coverage? http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=1RJ&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&ei=Rs2TS8KNBcGUtgft4KzUCg&sa=X&oi=spellfullpage&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=2&ved=0CAYQvwUoAQ&&q=die+every+year+lack+coverage&spell=1 Adding to the budget: The United States currently spends significantly more on health care as a percentage of GDP than almost any of the industrialized nations with universal health care. http://www.rwjf.org/pr/product.jsp?id=45110. The total cost of implementation is projected to be between $850-$950 billion, but this will pay for itself many times over in the long run. Keep in mind the projected total cost of the war against a country that never attacked us, had no ties to al qaeda, and no WMD's, is THREE TRILLION dollars and we will never get this money back. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=M7d&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=projected+total+cost+iraq+war&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq= Changing the "best system in the world": I have yet to be told what this is based on, other than anecdotes about foreigners coming to the U.S. for surgery. However, quality and access are two completely different things. It's true that the best doctors in the world come here, but that does little for the people who have no health coverage whatsoever. Yes people can go to the ER, but then we're back to Point #1. The fact is that the U.S. has a lower life expectancy than the Western industrialized nations with full universal coverage, and although this is not 100% due to the health care systems it certainly damages the argument that universal coverage kills people. Keep in mind that universal coverage is not even being remotely contemplated here. I have heard arguments about "back-door universal coverage" by preventing people from ever getting private insurance again once they go onto the public option, but this is quite confusing considering that a public option is not even in the legislation currently being blocked from even coming to a vote. Maybe someone can explain this too. Thank you for making it this far, I look forward to intelligent responses. =================================== "bmovies6" The government has a motive to be fiscally responsible, not to MAKE A MAXIMUM PROFIT. Link for your Medicare claim? And when market forces cause all the private insurers have roughly the same rates of denial, where are you going to go? =================================== =================================== "Pelosi's Water Boy" I didn't realize Cuba was a Western industrialized nation.... "GoGo Girls" I actually agree with you on everything about immigration...too bad this question was about health care. =================================== ===================================== "CaptainO" It's been awhile since I've heard the "public option will be so cheap and such great service that it will put the private companies out of business" argument. Silly goose, don't you remember that the public option will be awful because the government can't run anything right? MAKE UP YOUR MIND ===================================
NY rear ended accident help? I was recently hit in a rear end accident. I was driving a 2004 Chrysler Crossfire, the car that hit me was a 2003 BMW. I was driving on a road, slight rain, slight sun and noticed cars coming to a stop infront of me, I came to a stop, looked in my rearview mirror and saw a car coming fast, could see he applied his brakes and was coming at me, I didnt want to get sandwiched, I let off the clutch and moved at a 45 degree angle next to the car infront of me. I was hit, thrown about 75 feet, thru a ditch and came resting on a front lawn of a home. My car is a mess, already at 5300 in damages, they have found a crumpled floor pan and must now look at the underbody. Both cars will likely be totaled out, he hit me about 45 to 55 mph. I struck my chin on the steeringwheel and braced for the impact. The police said this is usually not good, cause my right shoulder, arm, neck and today my lower back is hurting me. I am going to the Orthopedic today to get checked, getting harder to sleep at night due to discomfort and pain. My right arm feels like the hand is swollen up, numb a bit. I have contacted my insurance company due to Medical expenses. I know NY is a no fault state, so will this affect my insurance rates. I have Gap insurance, so my car note will be gone, I will be out of a car, I also have now first time in my life back and neck pain, I am 36. I am not working cause I had to move from FL to NY due to family issues. I am not sure what I need to do. I am worried I will be left without a car when this is all said and done. I know I must be made whole again, but what will happen when the Car note is paid off? Will the other insurance company buy me another car? What if my medical bills exceed 10K? I am very nervous, my first ever car accident. I am just angry cause my life was great, now I fear this accident will cause me serious problems! The kid who hit me, said he lost sight due to the sun. Any advice please. My car is registered in FL, accident took place in NY. Im angry if this is how the system works then! I was going along fine in life, now, I may be left stranded literally without a car? I dont get this, i thought I was to be made whole again, like having a car. I know and understand my Gap Coverage, but I am not employed right now, so I will not be elegible to get a car thru financing. I just dont get this.. The kid who hit me basically ruined my car and hurt my neck and back. I dont get this...
Does anyone know of a cheap IVF and ICSI treatment and had a good experience? I was diagnosed with endometriosis, and apparently had it almost my whole life. I'm 27 now and it's gotten so severe with the pain it causes that my doctor wants to take out my whole system. I asked for some more time though so we can conceive. Then we found out my fiance has infertility issues too. So we were told that we need IVF and ICSI, but we can't afford it. Since we're not married, and won't be any time soon, his insurance won't help us and mine doesn't cover this treatment. Does anyone know of any place that does it for a fair value with high success rates? My fiance is an only child and the last of his family line so we really want one child from him. If you know of any place or have had a good experience some where please let me know. Thanks.

Have any of you gotten more than one moving traffic violation in one day? I'm curious to know if any of you have gotten more than one moving traffic violation in one day. I haven't, but I did get a speeding ticket and then running a red light in two weeks. I'm really angry and stressed out right now. I'm in school full time, and working full time as well. I feel stressed a lot because I need good grades to graduate this semester, and I'm trying to work my way up in life. I got a speeding ticket a week ago. Yes I'm guilty of it, it was my fault I was speeding. But tonight I got a ticket for running a red light which I didn't not intentionally mean to do so. I was stopped at a red light waiting, feeling tired and exhausted from the whole week, driving home from work (I get off work late) ... and for some reason I thought the light turned green, I went ahead and then realized I was about to run a red light in the middle of an intersection, I freaked out, and drove through it. Unfortunately there was a cop car behind me. I explained to the officer that I just got off work and i was very tired and stressed and that I DID NOT INTENTIONALLY mean to run the red light. I explained that to her very clearly, and still she gave me a ticket. Two tickets in two weeks! I don't know what to do now. Both tickets were in the same town. I don't want my insurance rates to go up. I feel even more stressed now and I feel like panicking. What should I do?

Home owners insurance question:? My tub on 2nd floor overflowed and did damage to kitchen ceiling, a little to walls, and some in bathroom. I woke up to the smell of smoderomg wires. I call 911 and go outside with baby. Fire department pulls two fuses (of 8) I call my insurance company, and the doorknob head adjuster comes. First he's not going to pay for a motel, but I tell him that the fans his "cleaning and restoration" company set up are blocking the doorway, where they have to be, so I don't have a legal exit, it's obstructed. Also, I don't need plaster falling on the baby's head--I can't be moving the stove and fridge every time I need a plate out of the cabinet. Restoration company had 3 huge fans and a dehumidifier almost as big as my stove in my small kitchen. Then he tells me that the restoration company is going to do the repairs--I said: "NO WAY!" and didn't sign an;ything that even allowed to get an estimate. So a few weeks went by --I got one bid that expired after 10 days. I was waiting for doorknob head adjuster to let me know how much he had paid restoration company to dry out my kitchen--and I had some other pressing matters having to do with work comp--had deadlines to meet. I know I have 6 months at least on the house claim. Friday, I get a letter in the mail from doorknob head, and a check for $804. He says the resotration company can sheetrock 1/3 of the ceiling for that. He paid them $3000 to set up a few fans and knock down about a 4x4 area of wet plaster ceiling , about 1/4 of my ceiling. Now I'm FLIPPIN! For the $3000 plus the $804--I could have done it myself, and had a whole new kitchen! I'm just not sure if I have replacement insurance--I should. I called the agent I deal with and told her I wouldn't accept that, and she said I had too--that I never called doorknob head back so he got the estimates, even though I told him the cleaning/restoration company wouldn't be doing any work after the "drying out." I told her : "Know way--this house is going to get fixed right and it's going to be safe--you're getting me a whole new piece of sheet rock, and there is bathroom damage and there are electrical safety concerns that have NOT been addressed. She told me I could cash the check and do whatever I wanted. I know that to cash the check would mean that I accept the $804 as a settlement. Who do I talk to next--should I demand another adjuster? I know I have to get another estimate, and that shouldn't be a problem. Should I contact the State Commisoner of Insurance! Looks like the only ones into insurance fraud are the insurance companies. This SKS Every day plaster is falling from the slats in the exposed area, my kitchen light is down, and my upstairs toilet is laying on it's side. My homeowners' deductible is $250, so that's not a big deal, but how can I tell if I have replacement? I read that policy over and over, and most of it is still like a can of worms. A friend who used to sell insurance said I have the right policy, but he couldn't tell, either. Their forms change every few years. Do I have six months to accept? If I call the commissioner, will they burn my house down, or just raise my rates or cancel me? I've been in my old house 27 years, and other than a couple of trees go down, I've only had one small claim in the mid 80's. Then this Friday, somebody also smashed out my windshield--same insurance company--it's fixed already, but I have to fix a headlight, too. Can anybody please be my free lawyer but on a contingency basis, who is a bulldog in court? I have the house claim, the car claim, the work comp claim, a medical malpractice claim, and a labor law claim for wrongful termination. I'm on unemployment. Worked for my company for 7 years, and was never going to buy a car while I worked for them, but I January, my old car threw a rod, and I had to have a car. Hard to pay car and house payments on UCI, grandson lives with me--I think I'm screwed! Can't even get a jewler to give me half way decent price for my wedding ring! I just hope I can hawk my house for the malpractice and labor law claims, or I'm screwed again. I won't be able to hang onto my house if I can't convince a jury, and I can be convincing. I have good documentation from at least 6 of the 7 years I worked for my company. Will attorneys ever accept houses as collateral, and work contingently until we win? I'm a 57 year old single mom, and now have my daughter and grandson, age 2 living with me. She helps, but doesn't make a whole lot of money. Baby boy is pretty neat--we just pulled him out of a daycare that lots of people like, but I didn't. The licensee got busted for having 18 kids and one caregiver, and some other stuff. I was suspicious of some stuff there, so my daughter and I found a daycare where the lady is only going to take 5 little ones, and she homeschooled(s) all of her kids. He's just too little to be left in a situation like he was. I'm SOOO busy with all of this st
Why is it that United States is considered the greatest Country? Don't get me wrong, I love this Country, I do however feel that it is over rated. To say that America is the Greatest Country is just crazy. I have been to other Countries that offer their citizens a whole lot more than America. Like Free College, Healthcare for all. Example in Britain You don't have to be homeless, The Country will provide housing for you. You don't have to lose all of your assets because of long term health problems, and no insurance. In America you work hard your whole life. When you get old , and become a burden to your family you are placed in a nursing home. The Nursing home then sucks you dry of your savings, and when that runs out they go after your home and everything else you have worked your whole life for. So the result is that you die with nothing to leave your family. I think that is unfair. Your opinions please I'm not talking about China or Cuba. I am talking about England, France, other european countries.
Is it fair to judge people by their credit? My brother is in the financial field and he's always going on and on about how someone's credit score is a good indicator of their personality in general. He insists that people who have bad credit are more likely to be irresponsible in other aspects of life. He says that people with bad credit are more likely to be unfaithful, shouldn't be trusted to own a gun or babysit children because they are more likely to be irresponsible. He tells me that this is the reason that people with bad credit pay higher insurance rates because they are just not responsible. So, I guess after years of hearing this from him it has sort of brain washed me. I find myself really looking down on people with bad credit. The other day I was renting a car and the poor woman in front of my had two credit cards declined so she had to go home and get proof of address and pay with a money order. Boy did I bad mouth her when I got into the car with my wife and kids. Then I was at the mall and a guy in front of me had his credit card declined. Although I would never say anything outloud in my mind I was thinking "what a low class MF, he can't even pay his bills on time". And now, more than ever, that the economy has gotten bad I have really begun to despise people who have bad credit. I feel like they messed up the economy by buying too much and putting too much on credit and then getting off scott free. I am sure many of them are good people. But even in commercials for the Triple Score monitoring they claim that the guy in the commercial should have had his fiances credit checked before he married her because they wound up living in her parents' basement. So is credit a true indicator of the person as a whole?
Need Help.I just bought a used car that I am not happy with. Got overcharged and bad interest rate. ? I just bought a used car that I am not happy with. Got overcharged and bad interest rate. I jumped the gun and did it too quck. I had a car that the power steering neeed fixed, cracked windshield, trunk held down by bungee cords, and was a gas guzzler. Driving that car made me depressed. So i went to look at cars and the very first one that i test drove, i bought. A 2002 nissan sentra with 84,500 miles for $7,300. Bad choice. For the moment i felt good. The following week I scraped my 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis. Now I look back and ask myself everyday why did i buy a new used car. Bought it on August 8th. All I had to do was fix the stuff on my other car. Runs through my mind every day. Can not even sleep through the night. Affecting my relationhip with my two kids who I have shared parenting of. A daughter who is 8 and a son who is 5. Also affecting my job, fallen behind on stuff. I keep thinking that if i would of just fxed one thing at a time on my other car i would of been ok. Now i have to pay 250 a month for 4 years for a car i dont even like. I know now that the only reason i bought it was because it had power steering and no cracked windshield. I know i can not turn back time. The mercury had 111,000 miles on it so im thinking stuff is gonna go wrong with it. Always started for me. Thats why people get a new car because of stuff going wrong the engine. I knew my car. This one i dont and it has 84,500 miles on it. So all i keep thinking is what is going to go wrong with this one. I cant live with myself each day because of this very bad decision i made. I have fallen into a very bad depression. I keep thinking each day i am going to lose my job and then my kids. Then they will repo the car i dont even like driving. I need help. If i knew I was going to feel this way i would of never bought the car. I dont know what to do in this situation. I cant return my car or get my old car back. I keep thinking of how much better i would feel if i would of kept my Mercury and fixed the stuff on it. To top it all off this Nissan isnt even getting good gas mileage. I was so gullable when i went looking at cars that day. First car I drove and bought it 4 hours later. Got suckered by the salesman and finance guy. Didnt tell me 3 places turned me down. Then i had to take this insurance on the car called gap for 500.00. Sucker. Now i know why the other three places turned me down is because the dealership wanted too much money for this 2002 used car. It was a Cheverlot dealer I can not even think straight during the day. At night i will sleep for 3 hours, then toss and turn for 4 and just keep thinking about what i did. I need help. Please call me at 330-881-2473 to help or direct me to the right organization. I made the biggest mistake of my life. There is is much more that started this, but somebody please help. I dont know what else to do. I have fallen behind at work . This is not like me at all. I can just see my job flushing down the toilet. I need help. I am at the end of my rope. Yes, i do need some financial assistance. I do want to lose my kids. Will somebody out there please call me. I just need another chance to do it the right way. I have worked hard my whole life of 39 years and have never needed help from anyone. I need some now, please. I used to be a people person at work, now i shy away from them. I was not in no position in my life to buy a used car. After it is all said and done this car with 85,000 miles on it will cost me 10,500, unreal. I am so mad at myself. I need a miracle. I have even thought of losing job and losing everything. I have fallen into a major depression and dont know what else to do. I have withdrawn myself from society.
unemployed boyfriend...sympathy or contempt? My boyfriend gets laid off, especially during this time of year, and settles into a lifestyle of being up all night eating snacks in front of the t.v. and going to the pub in the evening. He basically sleeps all day. I asked him if he is depressed and he said 'no, I don't know what it is'. He still lives at home and is 32. His sisters and brother are all in their late 30's and successful, married with kids etc. He does not seem in the least bit motivated to change the situation (career change, moving out etc.) He just stays on. Although his mother complains about him often, I don't see him getting kicked out any time soon. They still buy him household items and have his car insurance in their name. He has been spoiled his whole life and I fear it has made him weak. Since he spends so much time at the pub ("but I only have a couple when I'm there!"), he is not saving money. I have a daughter whom is starting kindergarten in the fall, and we were supposed to be moving out together by then, but I can see it is not a possibility at this rate. No, I didn't push the idea on him, it was his from quite a while ago. What I am trying to do is feel sympathetic for someone I love, whom I've dated for two years and whom has become close with my daughter someone who has lost their way. What I am ending up feeling is contempt and annoyance for someone who is continually lazy and, I hate to say it, selfish. I am angry at how often he takes for granted me, and his family. Time to scoot? Maybe if I do it will pull the comforter off his back.
My dad thinks he can't get another auto loan, but I think he can - who is right? My dad is in his 60s and has IMPECCABLE credit. In his whole life, he has paid every bill (credit card, mortgage, utilities, insurance, you name it) on time and in full. He has never taken a personal loan (well, he probably had some back in college, but they're long gone) and he has never refinanced. He has a steady, guaranteed job that he has been at since the 1970s. This past year, I needed a new car (I'm in college and live at home), so he took a loan for me so we could get a lower interest rate. The loan was originally for $16,000 and, since I've learned the same responsibility my dad has always shown, I always pay on time and in full. However, my mom's car is fairly old and has started giving us some trouble. My mom would like to get a new car. We're not into luxury cars - she just wants a Camry or an Accord. My dad thinks that with the mortgage and my car loan in his name, he won't be able to get another car loan. I think he would be able to get it, no problem. Who is right? He doesn't currently have a car payment - I do. It's just in his and my mom's names. I give him a check every month. I wasn't asking for rudeness, I was asking for a generalization. Dereck said payment, not debt. My dad doesn't have the responsibility for the payment, because it is something I can afford and he will never be responsible for, even if it's in his name. Who are you to tell me what kind of car I can have? I could have afforded the higher interest rate, we just chose to go about it this way because he didn't want me to have to get my own insurance policy - he saw it as a way of helping me out by getting lower insurance and lower monthly payments. I can buy whatever car I please. And, actually, the car was $20,000. It's really none of your business. I'm sorry if you're happy with a Ford that will blow up in a year, but I wanted a car I can keep for the next ten years if I need to. And yes, Camrys and Accords are cheap. What's the point in buying a Hyundai for almost the same price that won't last beyond 100,000 miles? As for this retirement nonsense, he's not planning to retire - my dad is shockingly young for his age - I see 50-year-olds who look older. Also, my mom's car won't last that much longer, so even if he were planning to retire, it would be smarter to buy it now while he is working than to wait until he's on a fixed income. Either way, my mom will need a new car within the next few years. Also, refinancing would be ridiculous, because 5-6% would be doubling my interest rate. My dad wouldn't even allow me to think of it.
I have BAD shortness of breath and asthma , but dont cough or have chest pain.. Please help ASAP? This all started on july 3rd .. I woke up gasping for air and went into panic in the morning cuz i couldnt breathe. I couldnt take deep breathes, and i felt like my lungs werent getting enough air. I also saw myself yawning all the time, even right now. I have asthma and its freaking me out. Ive never felt this way before. I took my BP and its 119 over 78 with a 97 heart rate, which makes sense since i took the neb a few hours ago and that always makes the heart go fast. Yesterday my resting was 65. And sometimes when i try to talk, i feel like i cant get my breathe when i talk. I used to live in nyc my whole life, and just moved to fl in march. I thought it might be the allergies affecting my breathing but the benidryl i took really doesnt do much. I also have used the nebulizer and that works for a lil bit, but not really and my symptoms come back. After the 3rd it got better and by the 6th i was fine, just a lil hear and there anixiety about it. But now today , its happening all over again. I really cant breathe well. Also i noticed that sometimes at night when i lay down, my legs ACHE. I was going to go to the ER to see what the hell is wrong with me cuz i really cant funtion well thru out the day , its also scaring me, but i dont have health insurance. I know the ER will take me but its still a concern, cuz i know they will probably do alot of tests that i cant afford . But i dont think i could deal with this anymore. I am a 23 year old male with asthma my whole life but hardly ever had the use the inhaller the past 5 years. I dont smoke and i dont drink. I have NO cough and NO wheezing, which leads me to believe its deff not asthma. Im scared honestly. And the fact that i was fine for over a week and now it started again leads me to believe its not physical. Maybe anixousness? But that doesnt make sense because ill have trouble breathing when im NOT feeling that way. I also have trouble sleeping cuz i think about this. Any ideas? Hopefully some docs are reading this. Thanks, and please dont just answer with GO TO THE ER! .. I know that, im just seein options
Need to kick daughter out of house but how? My 22 year old daughter who has had multiple problems her whole life including ADD, eating disorders, drinking problems, mild borderline has pushed us to the limit and we are thinking it is time to tell her to move out. Since she got out of high school she has flunked many courses at school and is on academic probation and is not going to college anymore. Bounced from job to job and now only works part time for $8.50 and hour. We gave her a car and she has not taken care of it and is now staying out until 5 am on a work night drinking and acting irresponsible. I took away the car because I am paying for it and paying for the insurance and she is driving drunk. But then she doesnt have a way to get to work. If we kick her out she wont have anywhere to go and wont have a car. She is basically a very sweet girl and looks very clean cut and is nice to people - but she is horribly immature, self-destructive and lazy and at this rate will never get anywhere. Counseling is a no - she wont go. We have gone for us. She wont go back to college. No interest and she flunks everything. She thinks she will find a good job without college that will support her but worth the costs of even living with a roommate she will be strapped. My husband and I are sick and tired of living with this crap and we need some peace in our home. There is no other relatives for her to live with either. WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH YOUR IMMATURE ADULT CHILD???
Is it worth having comprehensive and collision on your vehicle? I mean, some people drive their whole lives and never have a problem only minor dents here and there that cost nothing at a body shop. Others get into severe accidents. I guess it's a gamble, but sometimes your rates increase by about 400% by putting these on your policy. That's inflated but well, it increases a great deal, and what if you have nothing happen to you? Then that's THOUSANDS lost, and into the hands of the greedy insurance companies ( who god forbid you call greedy, they're out to help you, they CARE,). Is this worth it? Especially for a personal pleasure type of ride. Not a business vehicle, truck, or any high end vehicle either. Just a regular middle of the road car you'll drive maybe 3 days a week or whatever. I don't know. Perhaps comphrehensive is better than collision. I mean, people get into accidents but, not as many as the media would have you think.
How long do you think maternity leave should be? Many countries offer generous paid maternity/parental benefits for new parents, with job guarantees upon returning to work (e.g Canada - 1 year, Sweden - 16 months, France and Germany - 3 years, etc.) These countries also have a lower infant mortality rate and higher life expectancy for women. Since many countries (like Canada) have a huge surplus in the Unemployment Insurance fund, this does not necessarily represent a large burden to taxpayers. How long do you think maternity leave should be? Would you be willing to pay more in taxes (if necessary) to cover it? Do you think that maternity leave benefits society as a whole? Is it a more valuable investment in society than other things the government currently spends tax money on?
if i contact my creditors to reduce my interest rate and forgive my late payment fees or I will be filing for bankruptcy can they do anything to me? My husband was demoted from his job (instead of being let go in the massive lay offs his company performed) he makes roughly $2500 a month before taxes (HUGE PAY CUT). $2500 -$725 rent -$300 car note -$200 car insurance -$600 health insurance -$200-300 gas WITH a gas efficient car. which leaves us with $475 to $375 a month for bills and groceries. We DON'T go eat out, go see movies, or basically participate in any activity that requires money (life sucks). We are also expecting our first child and the medical bill is ridiculous EVEN WITH insurance. Now my letter states our problems and our expenses. We would like to make full payments on what we actually owe (our principal) and would like for them to forgive late payment fees as well as the interest rate. If they don't accept and we can't come up with a solution I mentioned that we will be filing for bankruptcy. MY question is, now that I am letting them know that filing for bankruptcy is an option what can they do in order to prevent me from filing? Can they sue me for the whole amount of principal interest rate late fees? and in doing so prevent me from filing? I am just wondering if letting them know about bankruptcy would make them accept my offer. Or is there another way? Any help is greatly appreciated this is creating a LOT of stress for me and I can't sleep well. Which is why I am on YA when I should be sleeping. HELP!!!
Should I stay married to this man? ? I need a little help from a few third party people. Lets start from the begining. I met my husband back in March 2004. We dated on an off from about a year until we finaly became very seriouse in our relationship. Everything was going well for us but they only thing was he could never hold a good job. (keep that in mind) He always bounceed around from job to job. but when it was time to look for a better job he was really always on the ball about that he was never with out a job though. In october 2006 we had our wonderful daughter who is now 2 years old and the cuties little thing ever. We were finaly a family but daddy still needed to get his GED to get a better job. For the next few months he studied for his GED and finaly received it by december 2007. His goal was to become a police officer and do good for his family that a man should do. Yes he has his down falls like his manners when eating (drives me fucking crazy), talking about dumbshit, and just doing crap you hate for you boyfriend to do in front of people. But in January 2008 he bacome a security officer and also got a part time job but he was making pretty good money. And we were able to finaly move in Feb 2008 into a nice apartment and not worry about any money issues. On march 8,2008 We finally got married. The best day of my life and still is. We were doing great. My husband got rid of the part time job that was not usful and got a part time job at another security place. We alway had money and we did everything as a family. We did have our arguements and he was known as "dingy" in my family because some crap he did he just didn't think straight. We anyways on July 25th,2008 he got so made at an arguement that we had the night before and at some of his coworkers he completly lite his car on fire. Its a total lose. Now this car he lite on fire was in my name completly. I bought him this car in December 2006 becuase we had our daughter and needed a second car. He was making payments and doing everything right. He was taken to jail friday night and released monday morning with a bail of 10,000$ which was his first crime nothing is on his record. Now my family is wonderful they have given us money to pay for an accident he was in, given each of us gas money when we didnt have the money, and paid for a wedding that was 10,000$. So my family is very well off and very nice but his family took me by surprize. My husband told me when he was in jail he wanted me to call his father that he is asking for help to get him out. So me being to middle man to ask i always said "this is coming from your son not me". Well keep in mind is dad is a nothing no good piece of white trash, low life, poor, and uneducated, and thinks in his mind as we were in the 50s. he believes women should do everything for him like his wife. but anyways I called his dad I explained "You son has committed a crime by burning up my car which is no longer usable and is now in jail. I was about to tell him after that line "I am not pressing charges but you know the insurance company is going to investigate as fraud." His dad said to me yelling "you better not press no charges against my son he has done nothing to you you need to get him out". I was pissed now me and his dad don't get along I hate him he is a disgrace to man kind its self. But even his sister which is 20 now im a year older than her said "i need to learn to bail out my own husband and I need to ask my family because they have money and they are poor". So I took it with a gran of salt and figured his family is a piece of shit that maybe noone cares. So anyways my mom ended up on a credit card bailing him out on monday putting 500.00 up front. He has already paid off the bailbonds man their 500.00 so hes been good with that. Now noone know how much stress it can be when someone screws you over. I had to deal with the finance company, insurance company, states attorney, and police for a whole month and a half. I was so stressed out I passed out, vomited, stopped in eatinng because i was so worried what these finance and ins company will do. Because when my husband wrote the statement he said i knew about it because of the arguement umm i didnt hear shit! But he explained and I have no been questioned. my insurance company denied claim (thank god now is a good thing) but is willing to keep him on my insurance and no it did go up it dropped rates becuase the car is off of it, my fianance company did do anything they just want money, and everything was set. This act pushed my family out of my nice apartment. when he first got out of jail i said "for better for worse we can pull through". Well after almost what two and halfs months Ive had enough. His trial is december 3rd he has already pleaded guilty I have already gotten advise from attorney for me which Im fine i wont be questioned. we have seperated he lives at home and I live with my mom. He has a good paying job still doing plumbing because jiffy lube dont pay crap and h thanks for everyones advise. I do need to sit back and think of everything I have and do whats best for my daughter and I. Obviously being depressed and not eating is not the healthest way to go..LOL. but thanks for everyones advise i do appriciate it. I think i do have some seriouse thinking to do. Have a great day.
Survive in America DIE in Europe!!! Just how much better is American MEDICINE?? ALOT!!!!!? READ THIS>>> Die in Britain, Survive In The US James Bartholomew The Spectator Which is better — American or British medical care? If a defender of the National Health Service wants to win the argument against a free market alternative, he declares, ‘You wouldn’t want healthcare like they have in America, would you?’ That is the knock-out blow. Everyone knows the American system is horrible. You arrive in hospital, desperately ill, and they ask to see your credit card. If you haven’t got one, they boot you out. It is, surely, a heartless, callous, unthinkable system. American healthcare is unbridled capitalism, red in the blood of the untreated poor. For goodness’ sake, the American system is so bad that even Americans — plenty of them anyway, if not all — want to give it up. They want something more like the Canadian system or our own National Health Service. That is what Hillary Clinton wanted and there are still plenty of people like her around. Tony Judt, in a recent edition of the New York Review of Books, was damning about American medical care and glowing about European healthcare. Think of all the money that is wasted in America invoicing patients and administering lots of separate, independent hospitals. At the same time, we can’t help being aware that back here in Britain the NHS is not exactly perfect. The waiting lists have come down, according to the government. They have probably come down somewhat in reality, too. But they still exist and, come to that, there is the worryingly high incidence of hospital infections. So is British healthcare better than American? Or the other way round? And how do you judge? Let’s try the simple way first. Suppose you come down with one of the big killer illnesses like cancer. Where do you want to be — London or New York? In Lincoln, Nebraska or Lincoln, Lincolnshire? Forget the money — we will come back to that — where do you have the best chance of staying alive? The answer is clear. If you are a woman with breast cancer in Britain, you have (or at least a few years ago you had, since all medical statistics are a few years old) a 46 per cent chance of dying from it. In America, your chances of dying are far lower — only 25 per cent. Britain has one of the worst survival rates in the advanced world and America has the best. If you are a man and you are diagnosed as having cancer of the prostate in Britain, you are more likely to die of it than not. You have a 57 per cent chance of departing this life. But in America you are likely to live. Your chances of dying from the disease are only 19 per cent. Once again, Britain is at the bottom of the class and America at the top. How about colon cancer? In Britain, 40 per cent survive for five years after diagnosis. In America, 60 per cent do. With cancer of the oesophagus, survival rates are low all round the world. In Britain, a mere 7 per cent of patients live for five years after diagnosis. In America, the survival rate is still low, but much better at 12 per cent. The more one looks at the figures for survival, the more obvious it is that if you have a medical problem your chances are dramatically better in America than in Britain. That is why those who are rich enough often go to America, leaving behind even private British healthcare. One reason is wonderfully simple. In America, you are more likely to be treated. And going back a stage further, you are more likely to get the diagnostic tests which lead to treatment. Fewer than one third of British patients who have had a heart attack are given beta-blocker drugs, whereas in America 75 per cent of patients are given them. In America, you are far more likely to have your heart condition diagnosed with an angiogram — a somewhat invasive but definitive test. You are far more likely to have your artery widened with life-saving angioplasty. In Britain not very long ago, a mere 1 per cent of heart attack victims had angioplasty. In America you are much more likely to have heart by-pass surgery. In 1996 British surgeons performed 412 heart by-passes for every million people in the population, less than a fifth of the 2,255 by-passes per million performed in the United States. America has many more lithotripsy units for treating kidney stones — 1.5 per million of population compared with 0.2 in Britain. It is true that in America they overdo the diagnostic tests. In one hospital they did a CT head scan on absolutely everybody who came in complaining of a headache. Even some of the doctors began to think this might be over the top when they realised that only in 2 per cent of cases was anything found. But in Britain the problem is the other way round. Having any diagnostic test beyond an X-ray tends to be regarded as a rare, extravagant event, only to be done in cases of obvious, if not desperate, need. Peggy, an American radiologist, came to Britain to meet her English boyfriend’s family. A pall fell over the visit when the boyfriend’s father found blood in his urine. He went to the local NHS hospital. Peggy knew that blood in the urine could mean something worryingly serious or could be utterly minor. A few tests could make things clear: a CT scan or cystoscopy for example. That would be routine in the US. But no such tests were done by the NHS hospital in Welwyn Garden City where the father was a patient. Tests are underperformed in Britain: first, because there is a shortage of equipment and second, because the equipment is underused. Britain has half the CT scanners per million of population that America has (6.5 compared with 13.6). It also has half the MRI scanners (3.9 per million of population versus 8.1). In Britain these machines are generally used during business hours only, regardless of the fact that some are extremely expensive. At the Mayo Clinic in America, by contrast, an MRI scanner is in use around the clock. And if you do get your X-ray scan in Britain, it may well be done with an old machine. Dr Colin Connolly carried out an audit on behalf of the World Health Organisation and found that over half of British X-ray machines were past their recommended safe time limit. Come to that, he found plenty of other machinery out of date, too. More than half of the anaesthetists’ machines needed replacing. Even the majority of operating tables were over 20 years old — double their safe life span. Look at any proper measure of the capacity or success of a medical service and one finds, again and again, that America comes out better. In Britain 36 per cent of patients have to wait more than four months for non-emergency surgery. In the US a mere 5 per cent do. While in Britain the government celebrates if the waiting times get a bit lower, in America they don’t do waiting. There are more American doctors per patient so, not surprisingly, patients have more time with their doctors. American patients also get to see specialists as a matter of routine whereas in Britain 40 per cent of cancer patients, for example, don’t see a cancer consultant. There are shortages of specialists in many areas of medicine in Britain. The father of Peggy’s boyfriend had asthma that was getting worse. In America he would have been seen by an asthma specialist while in hospital. They would have thought it convenient to do any necessary tests while he was readily available. Not in Britain. The father lay in his hospital bed with breathing difficulties but still did not see a specialist. He was told the wait would be six weeks. Peggy was surprised at how ‘accepting’ her boyfriend’s family was. She didn’t say too much because she did not want to come across as a pushy, arrogant American but she was thinking that ‘in America we’d go nuts if we were told we would have to wait six weeks to see a specialist. Expectations are so much higher.’ Shortly afterwards, her boyfriend’s father was discharged from hospital. Back home, before his appointment with a consultant came up, he died of an asthma attack. ‘Ah yes,’ comes the knowing response, ‘but what about the poor? The rich might get great care in America, but the good thing about the NHS is that everyone gets treated equally. The care is, in the hallowed phrase, “free at the point of delivery”.’ Before going into any detail, let us remember one thing: all those figures at the start about death rates from various forms of cancer were not just for the rich. They were for the whole population, poor included. That said, yes, it is true that American healthcare is expensive. It is true, too, that the financial burden on people is awesomely unequal; but not in the way you might expect. The seriously poor do not get the worst of it. They get treated for free. They get Medicaid, the national subsidy for healthcare for the poor. Their treatment is paid for by the state and subsidised by the hospital, or rather its other patients and — if it is a for-profit hospital — the shareholders. The poor might not get showered with as many diagnostic tests as those with full insurance, but they get treated and without the delays that are normal in Britain. No, the people who get the worst of the cost of the American healthcare system are not the poor. They are not the rich either, of course. Come to that, they are not the old, who are covered by Medicare, another government programme. And they are not the majority of people who are in jobs and have company health insurance. The ones who face major problems are somewhere between middle-income and poor. They are the ones who are not earning enough to take out an insurance policy, or not one with a high limit on medical expenditure. So if they come down with an illness which requires a long — and therefore ruinously expensive — stay in hospital, their insurance may run out and they may have to sell their homes or even go bankrupt. Those who are temporarily unemployed, between jobs, are similarly vulnerable. The numbers are not large in relation to the whole population. We are talking about a minority of the American population — figures of 35–45 million are mentioned — which is not insured and which is not covered by Medicare or Medicaid. Of that minority only a small proportion will need fairly long-term hospital treatment. But financial disaster can happen and sometimes does. People lose their homes, their savings, everything. Half the bankruptcies in America are people who had previously been ill. In Britain the system might kill you. In America the system will keep you alive but might bankrupt you. So there is no doubt that the American system is lousy in certain ways. Actually it is lousy in lots of ways. The insurance policies that cover most people are extremely expensive. They can cost as much as $8,000 a year. Part of the problem is that each state dictates what must be in such policies, thus raising the cost and reducing the competition among providers. A young man can be obliged to pay for a policy which insures him against getting pregnant. State interference means that people cannot easily get the kind of insurance they would really like and which could lead to the most economical healthcare. That could be insurance with a large ‘excess’ — offering coverage against real disasters but not against regular bills for ordinary visits to a doctor. The tax rules in America are also highly favourable to insurance provided through a company, but offer little of the same advantages to anyone taking out insurance personally. That gives rise to the ‘between jobs’ period of risk of falling ill. There is much that is wrong with American healthcare. The inflated cost is boosted by restricted entry into the medical profession. It has been pushed up by the courts which have given crippling damages for medical negligence. The doctors have to insure themselves against such damages and so the insurance premiums they pay are huge. Doctors can only pay these by charging high fees. The risk of being sued is also an important reason why American doctors would rather give you too many tests than too few. Let’s face it, the American system is rotten. It is not even a system. It is a hotch-potch. Most hospital provision is by not-for-profit, private hospitals. But the biggest buyer of medical care is the US government. Through Medicaid (for the poor) and Medicare (for the old) and other schemes, the government pays for 45 per cent of all healthcare. (The British assumption that American healthcare consists of an unfettered free market could not be more wrong.) Most British people do not realise that the non-private hospitals in America are not run by the federal government. They are local government hospitals. The San Francisco General is run by the City of San Francisco. And another unexpected thing for Brits is that even in such local government hospitals treatment is not free to those who can afford it. (Incidentally, all sorts of American hospitals — especially the not-for-profit ones — receive large sums of cash from charitable benefactors.) And if you think all the above is confusing, that is hardly even the beginning of the bewildering diversity and contradictions of American healthcare. It is a muddle. The British system was a muddle, too, until Aneurin Bevan came along in 1945. As minister of health, he set about unmuddling it. We, too, used to have local government (‘municipal’) hospitals until he took them over. He took over the charitable hospitals too, like St Mary’s and Moorfields and many other famous ones. He made it not confusing at all. What could be simpler than the central government being in charge of everything? Over time, the government put itself in charge of all the doctors, too. So all was made simple and clear. But the curious thing is that the new, improved, simple state system of Britain does not work as well as the American muddle. You have a better chance of living to see another day in the American mishmash non-system with its sweet pills of charity, its dose of municipal care and large injection of rampant capitalist supply (even despite the blanket of over-regulation) than in the British system where the state does everything. It is not that America is good at running healthcare. It is just that British state-run healthcare is so amazingly, achingly, miserably and mortally incompetent. General Health insurance costs? So, I'm pretty new to the idea of health insurance. I mean, I've had it before but i've never had to deal with my own issues before becaemy mom took care of all that stuff. I had health insurance that was provided by the military through my dad's job... But I am finnished with school (for now at least) so my insurance expires in october. I am going to spend the next year or two traveling the country and I think it's a good idea to get some insurance even though I almost never go to the doctor and have only been to the hospital twice in life... for just in case situations becasue I know I won't be making much money traveling. i've been looking at some websites, but they all sort of confuse me. I think i need a crash course in the world and lingo of health insure so i can better understand everything. Basically my question is: What is a general estimate of the bare minimum I would have to pay monthly for coverage. Basically for emergency situations like if i were to break my bones on something and also if i have to make a a visit to the doctors office (not like a routine checkup, but like for something more serious that still isn't a big enough emergency to take to the emergency room)??? Also, about how much more would it cost to add dental and/or vision benifits? My biggest concern though is that I am covered if I have some sort of emergency. So basically my stats are: female 21 yrs 4 ft 8 inches 99 pounds Non smoker very rarely drink I don't drive I am willing to submit to an exam to get a lower rate and as far as I know there isn't anything major wrong with me. The last time I went to the doctor was last spring becasue I got bit by a spider and got an infected knee... Thanks to anyone who can help me! Also if anyone is able to take the time to try to explain to whole system to me so i can better undertnad it that'd be really nice :) Thanks to all who read and respond! :)
Is this normal or do I have a crappy policy?
whole life question? Okay im just asking this question to get some idea of the price of whole life insurance. Im really not planning on going out and picking up a policy right now or anything so no one tell me to go get some term and invest the difference. I just want to know this for educational purposes. with your best estimate, what will I pay per year for whole life at a mutual company like mass mutual or Guardian for the following three whole life policy sizes. 100,000$ policy 250,000$ policy 1,000,000$ policy. I am 23 years old, Male and in perfect health and would probably get the best rate for the lowest price. i am a non smoker also. Please just give me your best estimates on the yearly prices for those 3 policy sizes for a man of my age and health. again dont try to talk me out of buying these policies because i am not actually planning on buying
if i contact my creditors to reduce my interest rate and forgive my late payment fees or I will be filing for bankruptcy can they do anything to me? Any help is greatly appreciated i meant principal PLUS interest rate PLUS late fees. but instead used the plus sign and it didn't showed up
Are you more confused after the third debate? I am a bit more confused now. I am still not sure on two major issues of both candidates: Taxation and Health Care. In my income bracket, I won't be effected by either candidate. However, under Obama, I feel sorry for the richer folks that work very hard only to be punished with higher taxes. Other than this issue, I am in agreement with his views/philosphy. Now with Health Care, I think the whole system needs to be reconstructed entirely which I am beginning to believe neither candidate can accomplish. The whole HMO thing is disgusting! How can someone get denied coverage in a life or death situation is beyond me! Shame on the people responsible for this!! According to Mccain, he wants to give $5000 so familys can support their Health Insurance coverage which to me at least, is merely a band-aid. Obama, on the other hand, wants to reduce rates. What I would like to see is Hillary's plan implemented. Health Insurance should be a necessity provided to all no matter your income bracket. I think it should be one unified cost to all minus the HMO BS (denying people coverage) which I feel is a huge task. It should also be run under the Govt. entirely. A friend of mine told me the other day, he is only going to vote for the propositions, not the president. In some respects, I agree with his logic. Both candidates have their faults. What do you think? Are you more confused now?
Is screening for cancer a giant con job? Here's an article in the NYT about people who are diagnosed with cancer in midlife, and the trials they face after beating cancer. Many of them are impoverished, even driven into bankruptcy, by the high cost of their treatment and medications. Many of them survive cancer only to find out that doing so has made them unemployable. Employers, acting in their own rational self-interest, will not hire someone who hs had cancer, since they are afraid that person will drive up their health insurance costs. But hey, it's better than being dead, right? Now here comes the astounding part: "“Cancer used to be a disease that occurred after you retired, because that’s when you were diagnosed,” said Cathy J. Bradley, a health economist at Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center who has studied employment among cancer patients. “Now patients are getting that diagnosis early on, which is a good thing. . . .But I don’t think they or their employers are prepared for the tradeoff, which is that someone may be out of work for a long time.” In other words: these people had their lives ruined by being diagnosed with "cancers" which, according to the article, never would have bothered them until they were at the end of their lives anyway! The word "cancer" is one of the most emotionally laden words in the English language, but when a pathologist uses the word "cancer," all she means is a tiny growth of abnormal-looking cells, which may or may not be harmful. There is no evidence that getting screened for cancer helps people to live longer. The whole idea of screening for cancer was based on the hope -- that's all it ever was, a hope -- that there were cancers that were so deadly that by the time symptoms appeared, it was too late to do anything about it, BUT, which if detected sooner by the new imaging technology, could be successfully treated. There is no evidence that such cancers even exist. What we do know is that, if they do exist, they must be so rare as not to make a difference in survival rates. What screening for cancer does do is detect the presence of tiny "cancers" which never would have harmed the patient. And, as the article makes clear, a diagnosis of cancer can ruin your life. So is screening for cancer a giant con job? Cancer Survivors Struggle to Find Jobs, Study Finds" by Roni Caryn Rabin http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/18/health/18cancer.html?_r=1&ref=health Should I Be Tested for Cancer? Maybe Not and Here's Why by H. Gilbert Welch, MD, MPH http://www.amazon.com/Should-Be-Tested-Cancer-Maybe/dp/0520248368/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234995311&sr=8-1 Worried Sick: a Prescription for Health in Overtreated America by Nortin M Hadler, MD http://www.amazon.com/Worried-Sick-Prescription-Overtreated-America/dp/0807831875/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234995363&sr=1-1 A third-generation freethinker To PathologyGeek: You are kicking over a straw man. I never denied that cancers cause serious harm. What I said was that, according to Hadler and Welch, there are no controlled clinical trials which show that screening asymptomatic patients results in a clinically significant reduction in mortality. If you have any studies that do show this, I'd love to take a look at them. Your sneering, mean-spirited response shows what you're all about. I am glad I'm not your patient. To PathologyGeek: Your reply is an insult to anyone who has ever watched a loved one die of cancer (as I have). We already knew that cancer is a bad thing. That's not the issue here. The issue is whether screening asymptomatic patients saves any lives. Take screening for prostate cancer, for example. You know, the five-year survival rate for prostate cancer (survival rate after detection) is 90%. In the UK, it's 40%. That would seem to be a point in favor of our health-care system, until you realize that the death rate for prostate cancer is EXACTLY THE SAME in both countries. There are two possible interpretations for this: 1) People are being diagnosed earlier, but dying at the same time, in which case the screening is useless, and/or 2) People are being diagnosed and treated for "cancers" that never would have bothered them, in which case screening is worse than useless. Prostatectomy can leave a man impotent, incontinent, and/or both. To PathologyGeek continued: Am I to assume that's okay with you, as long as your profession gets it cut?
I NEED LEGAL HELP!!!! There was a car crash at my house last year....? A man came off the road at a high rate of speed at 3 AM and T-boned my truck, pushing it into my boyfriend's car and through the chain link fence, where the whole mess blew up, a few feet from the house. the front of the house was severely damaged, the windows were blown out and the man died in my front yard. We were woken up by someone who saw the crash, jumped the fence, and was banging on the door to wake us up. When I finally got out it was pitch black and I was running across the back deck to get a hose to wet down the house and the 500 gallon propane tank next to the fire. As I was running I stepped off the deck and fell 5-6 ft. As I lay there my boyfriend was screaming to get up and I couldn't initially. I told him to just take the hose and get to the fire before we lose everything. I eventually got up, but was numb for several days. Then the pain started to creep in and I went to the Dr. to get it checked. CTs and x-rays were done and there were no breaks noted. I have been in pain ever since. Not only all that, but all my i.d.s were in the truck in my briefcase, so I was left with no id, so I could not get any rental car. I was without transportation for 2 months. When I finally did get a rental the insurance company would not pay for it; I put it on my credit card ($3,000), thinking the whole mess would be taken care of eventually with insurance. I thought it would be easy to deal with, as I had lots of house and car insurance, and I thought the man did too, but that is not the case. He had limited liability insurance, but lots of bodily insurance. While I am usually a strong person, having a guy die in the front yard (and the family coming soon after and wanting to erect a shrine to him in my front yard), as well as the financial and emotional tolls (I had just finiahed getting the house remodeled and gone through a bad divorce, just getting back on my feet), I started to become "unglued"; people at work were very concerned and the doctor was ready to take drastic measures. Despite all I have been through in my life, I have never been on any sort of meds. I was now being pushed to take something, which I had been stubbornly refusing, thinking I would be OK. I eventually did take it as I started to get scared from the anxiety and panic that were constant as well as the inability to sleep. Bottom line- his insurance company hasn't paid anything, not to my insurance companies or me. They are now saying the case is closed and I never suffered any injury or problems from this matter. I have gone to several lawers, both contingency and otherwise who say they can't take the case because there isn't enough money involved. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE?????
HELP PLEASE! Question about serious vaginal issues...? I'm starting to freak out. I feel embarassed to even talk about it... but I need help to figure out what's happening to me. For the sake of professionalism (and staving off my embrassment), I'm going to use medical terminology to explain what's happening to me. All I ask is that the people who respond to this ?'ion be respectful and tactfully honest in their answers. Okay here's the whole situation. I'm 20 yrs old. I noticed a small round bump on my perineum (the space between the vagina and anus) as I was cleaning myself after using the bathroom. I havent checked to see what it looks like, but from what I felt I know it's smaller than the size of a pea. I barely feel any pain from it unless I put pressure on it or wiggle it slightly. Even when I do that, I don't feel much discomfort. On a scale of 1-10, I'd rate the pain at a 1 or 2. This isn't the first time it has happened though. It's happen twice before. I was 17 the first time it happened and the bump (a singular bump) was located on my pubic mound instead. It was more diagonal in shape and was raised. I thought it was a mosquito bite or something to that effect so I didn't tell my mom about it. It grew a bit, then shrank and went away in about 2 or so weeks. I didn't think much about it after that until I noticed it again on April or May of 09' (20 yrs old). This bump (which was round this time) was located in the crease between my inner and outer labia. It grew and shrank at around the same rate as the first incident. (also a singular bump) I've done research on various vaginal diseases and honestly I don't know what to think. I've ruled out STD's. I haven't been sexually active for two years. I've only had sex twice in my life when I was 18 yrs old. I have a feeling that I've probably had more of these bump, lump things or whatever you wanna call 'em between 17-20 yr old time period but I just didn't notice them. I honestly wouldn't of known I had this bump if I didn't disturb it when I was using the bathroom. Who knows how many of these things I've had since I noticed them (or how many I probably had before I noticed the first incident). I didn't go to a GYN for the 2nd incident because I was kicked off my health insurance and I had no source of income to pay for a visit. I still don't have health insurance and my job doesn't pay me enough for daily living let alone a doctor's visit. I don't care anymore... I'll just go into debt do the GYN visit anyway 'cause i need to know what the hell is wrong with me. Sorry, I didn't mean to write a novel. For anyone who actually read this far, Thank you. Any theories or ideas would be HIGHLY appreciated. :)
Calling all grammer people!!! Please, Profread my essay on homelessness? HOMELESSNESS Homelessness is a problematic issue in our society that increases more and more each year. Unemployment, poverty, low income, mental illness, and racial or sexual discrimination, huge income gap are all contributing factors for homelessness. Ending homelessness does not mean finding shelter for the homeless but finding a way to fix our broken system. Many homeless individual report mental illness as being their number one cause for becoming homeless (Yoshida). Health care costs are skyrocketing and insurance privileges are increasing. Although there are many programs and counseling services for the sick, they all require a stable housing address which the homeless do not even have. The homeless also lack a universal health-care plan that many of the services provided become useless for them. They cannot even get health insurance, because it’s only eligible only if they are employed not unemployed or self-employed. Finding work is the most painstaking part of life that the homeless go through every single day. They do not even have enough money to afford education to help them find a job. The homeless stricken by poverty and have no where to turn to. Some people who already have work are still homeless due to low income. Many employers discriminate worker based on their color of their skin. They take away their rights and give them low wages compared with other workers. They think of people with different color or racial background as disadvantaged and less skilled. The most discriminated racial groups involve Blacks and Hispanics. “[They] complain that the [blacks] are a base class and exclude them from the rights which others enjoy” (Emerson). People of different races are divided into classes that eventually lead to homelessness and poverty. “Race-as-identity” was defined all over the work force, which made it even harder for the homeless to find work (Steele). Even women are discriminated and so there is a twenty percent higher unemployment rate for women than for men (Yoshida). There’s a great income gap between the rich and the poor that the quantity of the homeless starts to rise frequently. As the rich become wealthier and begin purchasing more and more that prices begin to rise. Those whose incomes are not rising as fast are less and less able to afford the same goods that they were able to get before. There are good reasons for defining a free market with a free democracy. But a fair market is as essential to democracy as a free one. The market should not just consider the rich, but also the poor when setting prices on items. Even housing costs are disproportionately affecting people with lower income. As years go by the rental prices for primary residents increase hugely that the current residents end up becoming homeless. Aside from just low wage earners, many workers cannot afford to live where they work and so they go into debt and disappear into nothingness. These are not the only causes that lead up to homelessness. There are many other reasons that not even you or I know about. We should fix the social and economic system for the better of our community as a whole not just provide temporary shelter for the homeless. Providing such services is only going to help maintain poverty not ending it. The homeless should be given free educational training and should not be discriminated against because of their race or sex. They should all be also provided with a free health care plan including treatment for mental illnesses. We should work to end homelessness not to just uphold it. Works Cited Emerson, Ralph Waldo. State : Neither Samaritan Nor Solomon ?? Mises? If you say that government is too big and truly overweening, you elicit a surprising degree of agreement among people, even mainstream columnists, economists, and nearly everyone. Even government employees, who famously resent their bosses, might be quick to agree. If you hang outside the offices of the IRS in Washington, D.C., in the park at noontime where its employees take their lunch, you will get an earful of vitriol against the bureaucracy such as you wouldn't hear outside 1990s militia circles. Incidentally, the government is having a terrible time recruiting employees. Only 16% of college-educated workers say that they are interested in a government job. Among those without a college degree, there is twice the level of interest. Among people currently employed, those with managerial or professional occupations show a low interest level of 17%. Among those who want work to be challenging and enjoyable, only 9% thought a government job qualified. And, interestingly, among those who say they want to make a contribution to society, 90% said that non-government work in the private sector, whether for profit or non-profit, is the way to go. Now, what this means is that the smart set avoids government. Government work might still be attractive to people with fewer economic opportunities, but they are entering it for reasons that are not ideological. And for that reason too, they are less loyal to the public sector and glad to bail out if something else comes available. Most people view this as a very bad trend. I would only say that it is a significant trend, especially considering that in the heyday of government central planning, government sought to attract the best and the brightest. Often it did. Now, one might argue that if government were doing what it should be doing, this would be a good thing. But if government is doing many bad things, it is certainly not a bad trend for it to experience a brain drain. It is always a tragedy to see smart and entrepreneurial men and women be attracted away from productive employment in the private sector toward a position of power in the public sector. It makes us poorer to have the talents drained away from wealth creation toward wealth destruction. As for the very few good people in politics — Ron Paul is the great exception that proves the rule — they are true public servants only insofar as they work to diminish government power rather than increase it. So long as government is large and overweening, we are better off with a public sector that cannot attract the best and brightest. They should stay put where they can continue to expand the range of goods and services offered within the market framework. It is the market that provides us the means necessary to improve our standard of living, and the tools we need to maintain some degree of independence from the state. We often rail against incompetence in government. But before we go too far with this language, we need to consider that competence in government may be a far worse fate. We don't need genuinely competent antitrust enforcers, drug and food regulators, tax collectors, money manipulators, labor-law interventionists, gun grabbers, and environmental police. As H.L. Mencken said, we should be thankful that we don't get all the government we pay for. To be sure, we are paying far more today for government than ever before. Consider the real annual growth rate of total government outlays by presidents. Under Nixon, it was 3%. Under Carter, it was 4.1%. Under Reagan, 2.6%. Under Bush's dad, 1.9%, a figuring owing to the cuts in military spending. Domestic spending soared. Under Clinton, whom we all denounced as a socialist, it was 1.5%, the lowest rate in the postwar period. And under the present Bush, who promised less government? The real annual growth rate of total government outlays has been 5%, which compares to Johnson-era spending. The old rationales for government growth may have been discredited in the public mind. But they are alive in Washington, among the special interest groups, and among the media. I would like to identify the main ones. Rationale Number One: The Good Samaritan State. In this view of government, the state should act like the third person to come upon the poor man who had been beaten and robbed. They imagine a population that is divided among three types of people: victims, victimizers, and those who refuse to help. The victim classes we know all too well, because the litany is said again and again within the structure of labor law: the elderly, the very young, ethnic and racial minorities, religious minorities, sexual minorities, the physically and mentally disabled, workers, the underpaid, people in rural areas, those who deal with urban overcrowding, people who breathe dirty air or eat chemically produced products, artists, the manufacturing industry, people with peanut allergies, the dyslexic, short people, fat people, the leisure deprived, and I've probably left out a hundred or so other groups. Among the victimizers, we similarly have a list: capitalists, racial and ethnic majorities, sexual majorities, the overpaid, managers and CEOs, people who live in gated communities, the well armed, consumers of cell phones, owners of mines, anyone living off a trust fund, fully abled men, and anyone who resents social managers telling them what to do. In the view of those who advocate the Samaritan State, these two classes of victims and victimizers are constantly at war. There is nothing but conflict between them. The loss of one is the gain of the other. These categories are fixed and unchanging. The lack of harmony of interests is built into the structure of the social and economic world. The remedy requires an institution that is relentlessly engaged in reweighing the power relationships between the two groups. The conflict cannot be finally ended, but justice requires that the victims are given an unending stream of compensation and that the victimizers are treated with disdain and punished for their very existence. Social justice thus requires that victimizers are reduced, disabled, denounced, and spat upon, while the victims must be exalted, fed, clothed, funded, and made whole. This is how the Left, broadly speaking, thinks the world works, and should work. It doesn't matter whether one considers oneself a hard Marxist or a soft social democrat, the intellectual tie that binds them together is the view that conflict and not cooperation characterizes the work of society in the absence of an institution dedicated to bringing about social justice. The institutional answer is, of course, the state. The state is the Samaritan who lifts up and exalts the meek, and smites the proud and powerful who would otherwise walk right past the poor person on the street, who is the very archetype of the victim in the leftist view of how the world works. But there are many things wrong with this view of society. In the parable, the victim was beaten and robbed. He was exploited only in a very narrow and old-fashioned sense: his person and property were violated. These are crimes against libertarian ethics, a system of thought that mirrors what every religious and ethical system has taught: do not kill and do not steal. In other words, he was not a victim of some hazy notion of Social Injustice. He was not discriminated against, exploited by an employer, made to work long hours, or denied a comfy living in his old age. There is a huge difference between being beaten and robbed, and having to pay high prices for prescription drugs. The great error of the Left is its inability to distinguish the injustice of violence from the supposed injustice of inequality of material condition. As for the Samaritan, he was not acting as an agent of the regime. He used his own money to help the victim. He got him back on his feet and paid his bills at the private clinic where he was deposited for care. The Samaritan did not rob someone else to give money to the man on the street. He presumably got his money justly by hard work and investment. He had no desire to keep the man dependent, nor to exercise power over him, tax him, regulate him, nor send him to war. The state is something very different. It has no income but that which it robs from someone else. It seeks its own gain at others' expense. It protects itself and promotes itself before the interests of everyone else. It is beholden to special interests who create and control its regulatory apparatus. It is not impartial. It sides with its friends over its enemies. Moreover, the state is an exploiter, a murderer, a violator of human rights. The typical response of the Left is to say that they want a state that does only good things such as share and care, and not bad things such as steal and kill. But this cannot be. We might as well wish for a lion that only purrs and cuddles, or a rattlesnake that only provides percussion accompaniment to mariachi music. The very nature of the state is that it exists only through and for compulsion. To imagine otherwise is not to face reality. Rationale Number Two: The Solomonic State. In the Bible we are told that King Solomon had "understanding exceeding much and largeness of heart, even as the sand that [is] on the sea shore." And his "wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt." He was "wiser than all men" and "his fame was in all nations round about." He spoke "three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five." He "spake of trees, from the cedar tree that [is] in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes. And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom." Now, I'm not here to dispute the Bible's account of Solomon's wisdom. But let us also recall that Solomon's rule later became close to tyrannical. His son Rehoboam inherited his power, and when the people begged for relief from Solomon's "heavy yoke," and instigated a full-scale crackdown: "My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions." To be wise and prudent is not characteristics of rulers. In fact, it is very dangerous to hope that they may be. If we set out to find such a person, and have fantastic power available to him when we believe he has arrived, we have set up the framework for tyranny. The founders knew that no man can be trusted with power. They attempted to construct a system that presumed that men were corruptible, and that there would be some means to dislodge them when their corruption showed. Still, today many people long for the Solomonic State as a means of dispensing justice. Unlike the Samaritan model, the goal here is not charity but the just wielding of the sword on behalf of the right and true. Thus should we seek out righteous men of learning and moral character who know what evil is and have the courage to stand up to it and destroy it. This model is what inspires this mentality. There are many problems with this model. One man might be very wise, even the wisest of all men. But as F.A. Hayek might remind us, all the accumulated knowledge in the head of one person is still infinitesimal as compared with the wisdom that emerges through social cooperation on the marketplace. We can consider the price of any good on the market as it stands right now, and know that this one price results from the accumulated decisions of millions of people across thousands and thousands of sectors of economic activity spread throughout the world. The knowledge is dispersed in a million directions and results from small decisions and actions by economic actors. But the result is a single indicator that assists in allocating resources better than any single mind could ever do. The model of the Solomonic State also imagines that somehow the social order we see around us cannot possibly have come about without a single will operating in society, some firm hand that has designed the order and keeps it running smoothly. People who think this way imagine that in the absence of this firm hand, there would be nothing but a Hobbesian state of nature, where society is a war of all against all and life is nasty, brutish, and short. Our age is notably lacking in the likes of Solomon, and so those who fear the Hobbesian state of nature turn to the managerial state to act wisely in the interest of justice and order, at home and abroad. They might not always like what the rulers do, but they consider the alternative to despotism more fearsome. They warn about the dread results of anarchism and liberty, where people senselessly kill and rob without consequence. They fear this liberty more than they fear the abuses of power. This, I submit, is the mentality of many conservatives and many on the Right. We see it in the affections they have for Bush, the Patriot Act, the war on terror, and how quickly people fall for any leader who uses Manichean rhetoric in defense of the latest nationalistic crusade. What these people need more than anything else is a familiarity with the insights of the old liberal tradition as represented by Jefferson, Bastiat, Mises, Hayek, and Rothbard. They need to come to see how order is not the mother of liberty but its daughter. They need to see how society is harmonious not because of the state but because of the prevalence of human cooperation in the marketplace, where people work to trade to their own mutual betterment. People who fail to understand this become the unwitting servants of tyranny, particularly in the modern age when it is so obviously not wise but stupid and violent and presumptuous. They imagine that the state can posses godlike powers and bring justice and order, but they end up only empowering the worst elements in society, bringing injustice, and chaos. Now, you might say that the old liberal view of society is naïve. It might be in people's interest to learn to trade rather than steal but we live in a fallen world. If not for some overarching controlling force, people would loot each other unrelentingly and kill for fun. Now, to this I can say that it is true that some societies have not learned to make trading and peace significantly more prevalent than violence and killing. History is strewn with examples. The question we have to ask ourselves is whether a society that fails to learn the art of civilization will erect and sustain a state that will impose civilization on the people. I submit that history also teaches that when a people are brutal and uncivilized, the state is even more so. The state is rarely and maybe never better than the people it rules; in fact, it is almost always worse. Rationale Number Three: Log-Rolling. Given these two very different conceptions of the state, one favoring the welfare state and the other favoring a warfare state, why don't the visions cancel each other out? So intense is the desire of one group to have the state that it wants that it is willing to put up with another group's desire for its conception of the state. The two conceptions decide to cooperate and erect a state that purports to behave both like Solomon and like the Samaritan. That is the origin of the guns-and-butter state, or the welfare-warfare state, or the modern state as we know it, one that purports to meet every need. We see how this log-rolling works every day on Capitol Hill. One group wants more money for tanks and weaponry, and the other wants more for Medicaid and education. If both agree that politics is the art of compromise, they will put up with the other group's priorities in order that their own vision can be fulfilled. On the Right, we find that the love for the police power is more intense than the hatred of redistribution. On the Left, we find that the love of redistribution is more intense than the hatred of war and leviathan. They therefore work together to erect a massive and ever-growing executive. They are similarly unwilling to oppose the state in total. They fear that in doing so, the state as an institution will be discredited, and their conception of what the state should do along with it. Neither side particularly loves big government but both sides agree that it is better than the alternative of letting people alone. So they log-roll to support the public sector above all else, even when it means that they must sleep with their ostensible political enemies. Rationale Number Four: The Inflationary State. Now we come to the reason this system is able to perpetuate itself. And there is something of a mystery to explain here. No people anywhere will put up with a leviathan that grows and grows forever. At some point, the problem of funding state expansion will result in too much violence against property, and the people will revolt. Indeed, if the federal government had to collect all its revenue through a tax of any kind, leveled right now against the public, I submit to you that it would spark a tax revolt on a scale never before seen in modern history. Thus do we have the central bank to create money for the state. Thus do we have paper money that can be created in unlimited quantities. Thus do we have deposit insurance to make banks failure proof, so that the masses will never doubt that the credit pyramid is immortal. Thus do we have the Fed's power to manipulate interest rates and control the flow of credit to the system. An economist at Lehman Brothers sent us an interesting chart the other day. It compares the level of price increases across many Fed regimes. Under the first Fed governor Charles Hamlin, the dollar declined 8% in value. Under Thomas B. McCabe from the late forties, it declined 7.2%. Under Arthur Burns, wholly owned by Nixon, the dollar declined 42% in value. Under Volcker, Mr. Tight Money, it fell 40%. And under Greenspan, who has a reputation as a great inflation fighter, the value of the dollar in terms of goods and services fell fully 44%! Inflation serves the cause of the state by giving it room to run up debts without limit and fund its activities without making the people cough up more revenue. Indeed, that is the primary purpose of the inflationary state. People often say to me that a gold standard is impractical. In fact, that is not the case. It is very practical. It is the free-market answer. The state doesn't need to produce money any more than it needs to produce shoes or shirts or clocks. The problem is that we lack the political will to stop the inflation monster. Rationale Number Five: The Propaganda State. In every society control of educational institutions increases in tandem with the rise of the state. This is because the state needs these institutions to inculcate the civic religion of loving the public enterprise, and also because the less people know about the idea of liberty the more the state is provided the room to grow. Consider the Department of Education. Ever since its creation, every Republican administration has come to power with an intention to abolish it. But once they get in power, they find that bureaucracy has its uses. Instead of cutting or abolishing it, they increase the agency and give it more to do. The more the state does, the more the state sees the need to control public opinion by controlling the schools. Now, there is a point of optimism here. If any state could rule without propaganda, it would surely do so. Why then do states find educational control and the propagation of the civic religion in their interest? Because at some level, every state, in all times and places, is required to seek the tacit consent of those it governs. No state can control a society by use of the sword only and alone. It must also seek some degree of ideological conformity with its own goals. Otherwise its rule becomes threatened and destabilized. The other side of the coin is that states can indeed be destabilized by the ultimate counterrevolutionary tactic of providing alternative sources of education. As Mises said, all of history is a battle of ideas. Where the ideas of freedom are triumphant, liberty prevails. Where the ideas of freedom are buried and suppressed, despotism prevails. Our pathway is clear. It is a choice of the Mises Institute not to mix in the mire of a political system that is wholly owned or attempt to seek favor from influential opinion makers. Our path is one of education, pursued with high-minded ideals, advanced using the most modern methods, and animated by the spirit of guerilla warfare. There are Misesians and Rothbardians strewn throughout the academic world, financial and banking houses, law firms, and in every walk of life, not only in this country but all over the world. We have worked for nearly a quarter of a century on a very radical project of advancing economic science and logic. We have pushed to keep the fire of freedom burning brightly. We have sought to teach anyone and everyone about the workings and benefits of liberty. We have come under pressure from left, right, and center. Yet the attention given to this body of ideas grows by the day. We can prevail against the Propaganda State. So long as we are free to do so and have the means available, we will continue to do so. This is our weapon against power. It is the most effective weapon anyone could ever possess. If we win this victory, we win all others. We thank you for supporting education for liberty, and for being part of the revolutionary vanguard that sees through the errors of our day and imagines a brighter future of freedom, private property, and peace. : Mises Institute
Gilbert Welch, MD, MPH http://www.amazon.com/Should-Be-Tested-Cancer-Maybe/dp/0520248368/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234995311&sr=8-1 Worried Sick: a Prescription for Health in Overtreated America by Nortin M Hadler, MD http://www.amazon.com/Worried-Sick-Prescription-Overtreated-America/dp/0807831875/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234995363&sr=1-1 A third-generation freethinker To Midnight Moon: You wrote: "I do know the earlier the better medically for the patient." Do you have any EVIDENCE for this, or is it something you just assume? ? You know, the five-year survival rate for prostate cancer (survival rate after detection) is 90%. In the UK, it's 40%. That would seem to be a point in favor of our health-care system, until you realize that the death rate for prostate cancer is EXACTLY THE SAME in both countries. There are two possible interpretations for this: 1) People are being diagnosed earlier, but dying at the same time, in which case the screening is useless, and/or 2) People are being diagnosed and treated for "cancers" that never would have bothered them. Either way, there is no evidence that agressive screening of asymptomatic patients saves lives. Prostatectomy can leave a man incontinent, impotent, or both. That's a hell of a price to pay for something that never would have bothered a person in his lifetime. To charna: If I have symptoms, I will have them checked out. I will not submit to screening when I have no symptoms. That is literally looking for trouble.
Why does society coddle women so much and do you think this will ever change? http://www.frederica.com/writings/men-protecting-women.html Men's lives are risked even as teenagers. I have heard of places where women have their own bus stops. and ALL men are expected to protect ALL women. I have never seen a woman die for a man that she wasn't related to. http://www.ifeminists.net/introduction/editorials/2006/0426roberts.html Yup. Discrimination on ships. I bet women still survive at higher rates than men. As soon as a female POW is in trouble the whole world comes running in yet nine men were allowed to be shot. Yet when a woman dies its a big deal. And newspapers make a bigger deal out of one woman dying compared to numerous men. I have never seen a woman work long hours to support a man or family. Nor have I ever seen a woman take care of a sick or dying spouse. And how unfair is it that women get to retire earlier and don't have to sign up for the draft. Lets not even go into why women live longer. Or why men commit suicide more often than women. Or why the majority of the homeless are men. Or why divorce courts favor women. Or why women receive less punishment than men for anything. Or why 70% of husbands make more money than wives yet women do 80% of the spending. Or why And in exchange for all this women punish men. Women are allowed to hit cheating men, and men who make unwanted sexual advances. I am sure the same does not apply to men whose honor has been compromised. I have never heard of a woman attack another woman for hitting a man. Society is pretty messed up if men protect women and women abuse men. I'm generalizing here. I am sure there are numerous examples of good women. I do know families where the woman works and the man is retired. and women do die to save men both in the military. I know there are heroic women. Here is one who protected her male soldiers http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4639029n And a woman who died to protect her husband http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/416223.cms And a woman who poured her heart and soul into rescuing her husband http://www.lhj.com/relationships/can-this-marriage-be-saved/unsolvable-conflicts/my-sick-husband-got-better-and-our-marriage-got-worse/ And women who even save their husbands and fathers by beating out flames with their bare hands http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-566319/Married-couple-fighting-lives-family-barbecue-explodes-fireball.html http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9C04E4D61639E333A2575BC1A96E9C946997D6CF And women do take care of their parents. And form charities to help men. And women give more organs than men and men receive more organs than women. And I know women give more blood marrow and blood. And I have heard of women in African countries torn apart by war travel long distances to get food for their husbands and children. But in general a woman is cared for MORE and is the one who is considered to be precious and valuable and is coddled and taken care of more. Men are the nurturers of the family. Men are the ones that keep everyone together. Women expect men to do all the asking out. I'm not saying women should be facing all the rejection but what's wrong with meeting a man half way. Women are hardly the nurturing caring one's either. A man is always a woman's emotional rock. A WOMAN IS NEVER THE ONE WHO IS LESS EMOTIONAL AND HIS ROCK. SHE IS NEVER HIS NURTURER AND EMOTIONAL PROTECTOR. NO MATTER HOW FAR INTO THE RELATIONSHIP HE TAKES MORE RISKS. A woman is allowed to cry at physical pain. Women give less sympathy when partners are sick Nor have I ever seen a woman do the protective things men do for wives, and even friends such as giving up seats(and standing uncomfortably on buses for hours), getting the car in the rain, giving up jackets, carrying heavy objects, walking home, driving her home, calling a cab to take her home safely, carrying her when she falls down , calling to make sure she got home safely, holding doors, paying, walking street side and positioning himself in between her and any vicious dog or threat. Even in relationships a man gives more massages, gives up his jacket, gets the car when its raining, gives up shoes if hers breaks, gives up food, gives up the safer car, gives up the health insurance, checks on the noise downstairs, drive in unsafe conditions, gives up his umbrella, gives up his seat, has security systems installed for her, walks her home, drives her home, calls her a cab, gives more in general, calls to make sure she got home safe, comes over in the middle of night to take care of her, does more to cheer her up, carries her heavy packages, picks her up form the bus station at night, saves her and her car from a ditch, makes her feel safe, carries her when she falls down. He is more likely to step in between her and vicious dog or take a bullet for her than vice versa. He ge He gets a vasectomy so she can avoid a tubal( vasectomies are safer the tubals but a vasectomy carries the risk of YEARS of discomfort and pain(what type of woman would let a man risk that)-one guy said even if it was more unsafe he would still take the pain for his wife-no woman thinks like that).

Posted By: shaista @ 03/01/2008 5:36:46 AM Comment: THE lunch hosted by Mr Asif Zardari for the newly elected members of the three leading parties on Feb 27 may well be remembered as a landmark in the long awaited transition to a democratic dispensation in Pakistan. The squalls that rocked the state on Oct 12, 1999 and in the form of the 17th amendment inflicted much damage. Then, the catastrophe of Nov 3 put all salvaging efforts beyond the capacity of any single party. The existing distortions in that historic but half-alive Constitution present a nightmare and demand the exercise of the highest form of political wisdom and legal expertise. The process of eliminating them by creating a new interface between politics and law has just begun. Pakistan???s present crisis is characterised by the bitter harvest of constitutional violations, growing imbalance between a power-hungry centre and the handicapped federating units, uncontrollable violence by ever-proliferating bands of extremists and, above all, by a rapidly rising table of sub-surface social anger at glaring inequalities of income and opportunity. A reasonably broad-based coalition government may provide a healing touch. There is no great virtue in a two-party system anymore as, for quite some time to come, regional aspirations will deepen particular identities of the constitutive elements of a diverse nation. The greatest achievement of the three top leaders present at Mr Zardari???s lunch is that they successfully persuaded their followers that these identities were perfectly compatible with an overarching national identity. Scratch the surface and lurking just beneath the protest against the humiliation of the higher judiciary and repeated violations of the Constitution is a palpable anguish of poverty and deprivation. Pakistan must eschew politics of vendetta but that does not mean that every crime against the state and society be brushed under the carpet. It needs a high-powered Commission on Truth, Justice and Reconciliation in the interest of historical accuracy and to build dykes for future security. We need to replace mercenary relations with relations based on mutual respect, community of interests and coordinated pursuit of common objectives within our respective national parameters. A strong and stable national coalition can be built around the present understanding between the PPP, PML-N and ANP. The US-led West should welcome it and not undermine it as it alone can make Pakistan???s battle against militant extremists effective The west should to withdraw their support from the one Musharaf who loathed by the people at maximum Posted By: shaista @ 03/01/2008 5:07:40 AM Comment: THE results of the election that took place on Feb 18 were astonishing. President Musharraf???s supporting party Pakistan Muslim League (Q) was wiped out and the ministers who were lucky enough to keep their seats are now at a safe distance from President Musharraf. The people at large want the president to go with no other choice. However, the US has been unduly interfering in our politics as its Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher has emphasised the need to continue President Musharraf???s rule. Pakistan has remained under military rule for more than half of its life, and the people no longer want any dictator to rule over them. As the PPP has secured the maximum number of seats, followed by the PML (N), the ties made between these parties also pose a serious challenge to the president???s stay any further in office. His rule for eight long years has brought many hardships to the nation and now he should quit The US slogan for democracy is and justice is just a slogan and in real and practicle not willing to be so for their own agenda From whome to expect the justice and democracy in the world the only power it self violate This is not the Musharaf pakistan but of 1,600/-Millions people and what they think of the rest This is not in the benifit of US to support the cruel one of the country who now the people think as Mechile G.Choaf The people and the young generation have very strong anti US sentiments due to their blind support of Dictator Musharaf This is not a good sign and this will increase with passage of time Posted By: eddiewhere @ 02/29/2008 2:12:44 AM Comment: IN THIS ENVIORNMENT OF ECONOMIC FEUDALISM WHERE THE MIDDLE CLASS MUST SUFFER IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE pROFITS OF MULTINATIONAL CORpORATIONS, WHO BENEFIT FROM CHEAp LABOR, THE AMERICAN DREAM HAS BEEN LOST. People in Pakistan voted in favor of Bhutto's party, not for Zardari, who was responsible for her twice ouster from the Premiership due to his shameful dirty roles of Mr.10%. Country's biggest grass root party preaching "Government of the People, by the People, for the People", which was founded on the basic principle of providing them respectable " Bread, Dress and Shelter", was created by Bhutto, hanged by a military dictator. Now, the party is orphaned in a bomb-blast death of his daughter during another military rule. Situation brings forth her rootless spouse, "Mr.Tenpercent Zardari", holding the People's mandate ( at ransom?), for endless exploits. Whatever the words mean, they cannot change the genes. The name "Zardari" literally means "Gold-Lord" and he lives his name literally. He was responsible for legislating and monopolizing gold import into Pakistan (through an Emirates based gold-tycoon of Pakistan origin) on a ridiculous 2% custom duty and made unfathomable ocean of fortune. If the US administration is ready," to let them have their rounds of discussions, still expecting the [Pakistani] Army to take the necessary military action, counting on an interesting transition", then the whole riddle is solved. The ongoing change in Pakistan is not a change of " act" in the drama being staged but, a "change of gear into a powerful all terrain drive", to move forward on the designed road-map, crossing effectively all rugged and bogging tracts en-route. Posted By: shaista @ 02/25/2008 5:19:05 AM Comment: The newly retired General Musharraf has displayed no intention of leaving office despite his king party losing even after plenty of evidence that he had planned to rig the elections. The caretaker government was anything but neutral and the Election Commission was suspect. But pressure from Washington compelled him to change his plans. Had he still engaged in massive rigging, not only would he have drawn Washington???s ire but also evoked ugly street protests. He knew that if the ???agitators??? caused the country to come to a standstill, the army would distance itself from him. Without their protection, he would not last a day in office. The habitual offender Musharaf this time fail for not carrying out a full pleadge crime of rigging due to international observer existing These people will never be convinced that it is time for the ex-general to go. To them, he is the embodiment of truth, the doer of all good things, and the prince of enlightened moderation without whom Pakistan would return to the Dark Ages. It is time for Musharraf, to wake up and realise that the game is over. Everything Musharraf stood for was repudiated on Feb 18. The electoral results have made it clear, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that the people do not wish to see Musharraf holding court on radio and television day in and day out. Aitzaz Ahsan spoke for millions when he said, ???Musharraf is the most hated & loathed man in Pakistan.??? During the last several months, poll after poll showed Musharraf???s popularity plummeting like a lead coin in a bottomless well. But he continued to reject the polls by saying that they only represented the views of a few thousand people and asserted vainly that he was vastly popular in the populous countryside. But even the King???s party was not taken in by the myths spun out by the monarch. It knew that once rigging was no longer an option, its fate was sealed. Why else would they seek to obtain the release of one of the key instigators of the Lal Masjid takeover, Abdul Aziz, just days prior to the vote? This was an obvious ploy designed to play on the religious sympathies of the people and to garner much needed votes. How else could one justify releasing a real and confirmed terrorist from jail while holding the nation???s eminent justices and barristers under house arrest? Musharraf had said not too long ago that he would step down when he saw that the people were no longer with him. He said he was continuing as president only because it was in the national interest. He would rather be playing golf or tennis, he noted, but the situation required him to sacrifice his personal interests. Well, the time has now come for him to do the nation a favour and quit as he is the only evil for this country. The only worry Americans have about the moment to keep up Musharraf in Presidency because Musharraf has amended the constitution in such a way no one else can do any thing without his consent and authority. This is worrisome for the new elected politicians. They know very much the hard fact that they have not been elected on merits, it is the hatred against Musharraf they have en-cashed. Because Musharraf have destroyed the true democrative spirit of the Pakistan???s Constitution by extremely autocratic and extra constitutional way before conducting the general election so that he could do the post election rigging. If those powers are not taken away from the presidency then the politicians will be nothing more than tools in his hands. If the politicians failed to restore highest court judges that will mean they are empty handed. Moreover they won???t be able to face their voters who have sent them Islamabad to clean up the mess and deliver good to them. is america deserving? First of all, I am Asian-American, so don't be judgmental so quickly, I have just started college and I am still trying to find a self-identity for myself. I'll be honest with my personal experience and opinions, so you can all understand how true Asian-American can get sometimes, sway away from typical stereotype Please. Recently, I've become more and more annoyed with society itself, I always believed in minding your own business and care less for other (I don't mean to be self-fish, but first help yourself before you can help others). I live in new york my whole life, until recently I get to travel to China and learn about my culture and parts of it's third-class counterpart, and knowing how third work country are working their *** off just to earn penny worth to feed their families, while in america, where education is free,(free in a way where people pay taxes to contribute to education), yet among low-class family teenagers are the biggest buffoons to take education for granted, and often bring other teenagers down because they aren't "ghetto and get hip" enough, and this become a vicious cycle. why did god created ignorant people with such thick skulls, they think they are smarting than you and treat you, as you are slower than them As a new yorker, I've acknowledged the point that projects/ government Housing is to provide housing for the less fortunate, but it has become a failed service and caused much more trouble. Families are raising like more kids out of wedlock than they can take care of, just to collect a good chunk of government's check " out of the people's taxes", just so they can get some HDTV, kicks (sneakers), smoke some dope, while their "5-8" kids turn out like dogturd stuck in the fuken ghettos and grow up to be arrogant and thick-witted, only thing they will grow up to care is about getting the next coolest outfit, tease some girl, thugging and bitching about getting cheated/ dumped in "High School". It' makes me want to puke, how weak minded american teenagers in our society have become, I have spoken with immigriant students and they have more interesting thing to talk about. If the French reformation, razed all the slums and start over under Naploean's administration and build a better and safer living community, why can't we? why waste the tax dollar on a failed service. i believe social service should be a bonus for hard working low-income family to help pay for insurance or help their children get an college education, and not for those who take it for granted sleeping around with 8 kids. i believe why new york have attitude which other States don't welcome. I notice majority of working class don't likes to communicate with strangers and Because they don't want to associate with people who are snobs and cocky, I remember the old days when New York used to be a friendly caring place, now it's like a city ruled by immatures and uneducated mixed in with the good society that actually want to be "ACHIEVERS" honest I say "New York City Sucks", it's no wonder tourism rate dropped dramatically. I have just realize I'm a Conservative type of person (i always thought i was a liberal :P), I never thought I would ever get involve into politic. Although I'm an atheist myself but I do believe religion help bring us together and built understanding. I understand how people mistaken the whole concept of Conservative, "the word conservative sounds like strict old-school feather whipping" NO! Don't hate me if i say Liberals are bunch of people who thinks society is FREE and bunch of under-achievers (they think it's okay to lower the standard, when it's an okay, they lower standards some more), but not only in china, but other countries too " you are either ahead of the game, or you're out", it makes me feel that some American think the Time have STOPPED and everyone is waiting for him/ her. and i have experienced majority lack of care for community run by liberals, no wonder american teenager are so fuked up they only care about when the next music ALBUM is coming out, liberals train teenagers and older role model to be bunch of arrogants and cocky bastard which then teach little kids to be sissy and stay immature till their parents die and they still aren't employed. liberals believe there is no traditional value and respect within the family as well as the community, no wonder criminials love gun laws, while they dont care for the laws anyway, why should good civilized familied be endangered of being shot and raped without protection. Guns are so easy to aquired and transported, gunlaws are a failure, and put families at risk Our Country has become soooo liberal-friendly with criminals, that it has become an okay to become serial killers and get locked up with a "death penalty" to be feed for the rest of his life, there goes our tax dollars at work. even with evidence of the murder killing the victim, they only need to sit their *** off for duration of time before their next release...hmmmm...something's wrong isn't there? Abortion and gay rights are also a silly topic, and i have no interest in debating about it, the energy wasted debating whether a fetus is a living soul, i would rather put into progress discussing about future technology (providing cleaner and safer method against pollution) and helping third world countries which has provided us so much of the Man power we normally wouldn't do, like get paid in pennies for day's work. sometimes i wish, i could make a difference or play god for a day, or become a president for a day and tell the country " how **** up the concept of america has become" people misinterpret the word "FREE and LIBERTY" society has become a joke, i would rather live somewhere in the nature in the mountain and forest in the west, and learn and teach traditional value of hunting and build morale for younger childrens
What is wrong with me? He thinks I'm cheating, and I feel like I'm having a break down.? I'm stuck in a bad position. All the signs have pointed to me being unfaithful to my fiance and in the last week I don't even know that I'd trust him if things were reversed. To make it worse, I have cheated in the past, but we had moved past it and things were going well. We have been together almost 10 years. But last week I got in contact with an old friend (male) and we ended up having a kind of ridiculously long text conversation over a couple of days. A few times the conversation went in a direction that I wasn't wanting it to go, and I tried to keep it on track and friendly. This is not the person that I cheated with, nor someone that I slept with, but I feel guilty about some of the things he said but I was feeling really down and lonley and needed someone to talk to. Then my fiance called me very angry about the number of text messages being sent on our account, and I apologized and made up a dumb excuse and stopped sending texts. But the phone company ( we have Sprint) logged another 90 texts after he called me. I told him I had sent no more but I'm sure he didn't believe me. Then our son emptied my purse on the floor and he said there were condoms in it. I told him that our son had been playing with them a while ago and when I took them away I just shoved them in there because it was handy. Which was close to the truth except that I had shoved them into my school bag ( this was MONTHS ago) and the other day they had nearly fallen out n class and I was embarassed so I stuck them in my purse in the little zipper pocket and hadn't gotten a chance to take them out. But all of this is starting to stack up into a pretty convincing case against me. Then last night he calls me at work ( I work the nights that I don't have class, which is another strike against me because I am rarely home in the evenings and it isn't unusual for me to be at work untill 3am) He is furious because he says that he got Sprint to send him the text and picture log from my phone and that while he hadn't gotten the texts yet that someone had sent me a picture of their penis in the photo log. I told him I never saw the photo, that I hadn't gotten it because I hadn't. I would remember someone's penis popping up on my phone. But I don't know why he would lie about it and honestly I can see the person the picture was from sending the picture, but the fact remains that I never saw it. At any rate, now he's just stewing at me because he's convinced that when he gets the text logs that it will be some huge exposition of a torrid affair. I'm just sick at this point. I have issues with depression and anxiety as it is and this is driving me up the wall because I know that even with the logs showing me steering away from my conversation being anything but friendly he will still see it the wrong way. I don't even know what to do anymore. I know I deserve the lack of trust, I messed up before and I accept responsibility for that. But what kills me is me feeling like I need to lie to him about things that I shouldn't have to lie about. Feeling guilty when I didn't do anything wrong. I have actually thought about how it would be easier to just avoid the whole confontation by hurting myself. I know that's not ok. I know that there is nothing that would justify killing myself. I know that. But I still think about it sometimes, which makes me feel even guiltier. I actually started punishing myself last week, making myself go the day without eating, seeing how long I could go without food. And the sick thing was it felt good, it felt good to feel hungry, to feel my stomach hurt. And then I started thinking about cutting myself. I almost stopped one night on my way home and bought razor blades because I couldn't bring myself to use the kitchen knives. I just want to make it all go away. Things were already strained because of the financial burden I put on us by going back to school. I feel like I've ruined his life as well as my own. And now I'm putting him through even more torment because of all the suspicion. I guess I'm just rambeling at this point, can anyone help me with something other than see a doctor/therapist? ( I would if I could, but no health insurance and no money kind of rules that out) I know I need to look at myself and why I can't communicate effectively. But part of my problem is not being able to express any of this. If I was being a drama queen then I could at least get it all out and said, but as it is all I can do is bring it to an online forum because I don't have to talk to anyone. Growing up it wasn't ok to not be ok. You didn't cry, you didn't talk about your feelings, you put on a happy face and toughed it out. I think maybe because my fiance isn't very expressive and doesn't really do the whole feelings sharing thing that I've started to relate to him the way I did to my father, so I start to feel like it's not ok to tell him things aren't ok.
Can't Get Daycare Thru Job and Family Or Any Help, Please Help!? Hi guys, I need some help please. I moved with my fiance to live with him and my son from a previous relationship. I changed my JFS case to the county I'm in and since then I have had nothing but trouble. I tried to apply for cash assistance and was told I had to work 20+ hrs a wk to get any type of cash with my 2 yr old son despite not working the other 2 yrs in 2 other counties at Job and Family while he was little and about 6 months while I was in school. Someone told me to put my significant other (not married) on as my landlord and I had to fill out a landlord paper and put I pay no rent now being that I can't get cash assistance. I just got a cashier job to help pay the bills until I can find a "real job" if there's any left. I called them and they gave me an employer verification form which I gave to my HR Manager. She said she is not allowed to fill it out and gave me a card with their 1-800 Employee Verifcation Line. I gave this to Job and Family along with the daycare application and filled out the paperwork at the daycare I was going to use. I called from 7:30 in the morn. Wed. to try to establish daycare when all they needed was a paper faxed or phone verification saying I applied so that they don't charge me the $150 a wk. private rate. The daycare called me back and said they can't approve it till I have the employer verification form filled out but my hours, days, times, etc. are going to vary with the holiday season for right now and I already explained to them they need to call the 1-800 number and they said I'm "not in the system" even though I've already worked the training wk and a whole wk now. My HR Manager said I should be in the system and I told them they can call the store to talk to them as well to explain it to them. Now I have no daycare and want to quit my job as I can't live off min. wage and they will probably reduce my food stamps but I called another number for Job and Family and the lady told me they can possbily sanction me if I quit a job without just cause. Well no daycare and min. wage when I have a 4 yr degree seems to be just cause for me! And I applied for WIC and put him as my fiance and Job and Family knew about this and I don't think that is supposed to be released. Along with I applied for Medicaid and just got my insurance card and approved, didn't even use the insurance yet and they sent me a letter in the mail about being redetermined for Medical. How can I be redetermined when I just got approved?! There was also a pamplet in there about Welfare Fraud. I lived with my son's father's mother when he was in jail in one county and my mom who was an RN (and they never even questioned her income yet they do my fiance's) when I lived at home in another and never had so many problems with Job and Family. All while my son's father doesn't pay any child support and lives off his rich grandma-just got $7000 from her and $5000 for a car and might be going to jail AGAIN for selling fake items on Ebay this time. Plus my ex's family is crazy and would try to get me in trouble in anyway they can because they are jealous and he has a stalking record, etc. So I want daycare badly to cut them out of the picture for when I have a better job because of numerous reasons. We're currently living off about $1200/mo. with 3 people. Our rent is $650ish, car payment $250, electric-$40-60, plus other bills so money is super tight and I'm gonna make at my cashier job about what I made living at home not working. I don't even know where to find a real job with my degree (Bachelor of General Studies). I even applied at Job and Family up here to be a caseworker and never even got an interview. But anyways I can't seem to get any help up here and I feel like I am being toyed with. I just need some help till I can get a career and he can either get a raise or make better money somewhere and I don't know what to do. Please Help! There are very few babysitters up here approved by Job and Family and most aren't open wkends, my fiance's niece can watch him wkends but she's 13 and has school. And I don't know anyone up here because my fiance and his family so that's about all.
So basically he sa
Life insurance: Which would you pick? Scenario: 30 year old purchasing a $250,000 policy. Would you buy: A) Whole life insurance that cost $3100/year. By age 65, he will have $60,000 in the cash value. B) 35 year term that cost $1500/year. If you invest the difference of $133.33/month with a rate of return of 12%, you can have $866,000. Or even at a conservative rate of 10%, you can $510,000. A or B? I wish my husband and I learned about term and investing the difference a long time ago.
Why does society coddle women so much and do you think this will ever change? http://www.frederica.com/writings/men-pr... Men's lives are risked even as teenagers. In pizza delivery shops men are sent to deliver shady pizzas. I have heard of places where women have their own bus stops. and ALL men are expected to protect ALL women. I have never seen a woman die for a man that she wasn't related to. http://www.ifeminists.net/introduction/e... Yup. Here is one who protected her male soldiers http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4... And a woman who died to protect her husband http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/artic... And a woman who poured her heart and soul into rescuing her husband http://www.lhj.com/relationships/can-thi... And women who even save their husbands and fathers by beating out flames with their bare hands http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-... http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.ht... And women do take care of their parents. He gets a vasectomy so she can avoid a tubal( vasectomies are safer the tubals but a vasectomy carries the risk of YEARS of discomfort and pain(what type of woman would let a man risk that)-one guy said even if it was more unsafe he would still take the pain for his wife-no woman thinks like that).
Question about Lap Band surgery? I am considering Lap Band surgery as my insurance (UHC) covers all but 150.00 copay. The only thing is I am nervous about this. I have been overweight my whole life. My doctor is having me take Adipex but I know this is a permenant solution as Adipex only kills your appetite and once I stop I will resume eating. But I have read online that people easily get sick and vomit with lap band and they are having all sorts of pains. Now I dont know anything about these people but I wanted to get some answers from others. How much weight have you lost and at what rate? Also is it painful and do you get sick often?
