Has anyone worked for New York Life insurance?

I am considering a career with New York Life insurance. What is this company like to work for? Company culture? I'm just starting out in the insurance business. Any advice is appreciated.

  1. Why work and only sell for one company when you can work as a broker and still sell products from that company AND dozens upon dozens of others? No company has the corner on the market for every product and every situation. Career agents are dinosaurs as are the career agencies. Work as a broker or have them start you on a broker contract so you can keep your renewals. They'll try to talk you out of it because they'll make more money if you come on as an agent. But as an agent your value to them is short-lived so once they're done with you they'll just spit you out. Do what make most sense for you and your potential future clients...not just what makes sense to the people that want to hire you. And yes, they can hire you as a broker. Just get a part time job in the interim because that'll be better than any 'financing' they could provide.
  2. Michael B, Life insurance covers lots of different things. Since I live in Nebraska I'm not familiar with the New York laws and regulations, so I suggest you call a nearby life insurance agent. http://www.easylifeinsuranceguide.com/New-York-Life-Insurance.html They will be able to assist you.
