Long-Term Care Insurance?
My wife and I are 66 and in good health but considering long term health care insurance. Our broker has got us a couple of quotes, one from John Hancock and one from Auto-Insurance Life; Any words of wisdom on what to look for or avoid would be most welcome.

- I wouldn't bother with it at this late stage.
- having gone through this with my mother, i would look for something that covers in home care.
- Well you need to understand first what your medical insurance covers if you are retired and what medicare pays for.You need to talk to a lawyer about your assets if either of you needed nursing home care. Ask him about transferring your assets to any children and his advice so all you have doesn't have to go to the state. Now about the insurance it is a good thing to have if you can afford it but know that medicare covers in home care if the doctor agrees to it.That's my 2 cents worth, hope it helps.
- Medicare will pay for in home care - but only for a couple of hours a day and about 2 - 3 days a week. I am on hospice - paid for by Medicare - and they only come in 2 hours a day! I still have to pay for a cleaning lady to come in, and for another to do my shopping! As it is unlikely that both of you would become terminally ill simultaneously, I think I would skip the long term care insurance and buy some in home care insurance - the kind that medicare does NOT pay for! i.e. house cleaning, laundry, trash disposal and other things not covered by the government. Call 1-800-MEDICARE for further info. Hope this helps. CJ
- Be honest,It will take a while to find the best answer for the your question.give a look at resource here http://www.healthinsurance-onlinetips.info/health-insurance-for-free.htm for your reference .
- Make sure it covers in home care..sometimes you can remain @ home with help, which is much better than going to a nursing home. Easier on you and your family. 66 and good health, now is the ideal time to buy, before something unforeseen happens and you would not be accepted..I also think AARP may have a plan.
- If I were you, unless the premiums are exorbitant, I would definitely get it. What other viable choice is there, depend on your children or relatives to take care of you? btw Medicare does not cover long term care. Having the home care is no where near the same thing. They will pay for Hospice but you have to prove you have a very limited time to live.........who cares for you before you get to that point?
