How do I cash in my Gerber baby life insurance thing?

My mom set me up that gerber plan when i was little and she said i get 5,000 dollars if i cash it in when i'm 18 and 10,000 if i wait to do it at 21...I'm 19 now and need some college money but i have no idea how to do this.

  1. Do you have a copy of the Insurance Policy? I would contact the carrier on the policy and tell them you want to draw on it. If you've lost the policy, you will have to contact Gerber and find out how to go about cashing the policy in. Good Luck! Edit: She stated in her question that she has a "cash out" benefit of $5 or $10K.......I'm not talking about the death benefit. She will have to contact the company anyway to find out how she can cash it in (the "whole life" portion of it).
  2. Most likely not true. You have to call them to see what the "cash value" is. Likely, it's well under $1,000. She's talking about the DEATH benefit. You actually have to DIE, to have the policy pay out that much.
  3. No, depending on how much premium was paid into the policy, there's definitely a chance of having the cash value you mentioned.
