- If you want to sell life insurance NYL is one of a select few that you should consider. They have excellent training and support, commissions and residuals are very good, and you receive incentives during the first 3 years that help supplement your income while you build up your residuals. The company is solid. The questions is: do you want to be a life insurance agent. Make no mistake, you will be selling life insurance for NYL. Do you have to bug your friends and family to buy stuff: No. But if you are too embarrassed or uncomfortable speaking with your friends/family about life insurance how will you ever be comfortable/good at presenting it to strangers. You want the people closest to you, the ones who trust and respect you, to tell their friends and family that you are the agent to work with. You will need to talk about life insurance and life insurance products a lot. And if you do, you will make a lot of money. Good luck.
- It's not commission-based. It's commission only. And, yes you'll likely be expected to drum up your own leads. It not a bad place to get a start, but don't take it unless you're immediately vested. Tell them you want to come in as a broker and skip 'financing' so that you can keep all of your renewals. Also, get a part time job to help out. Once you're a broker you can also sell other products from other companies.
