We are in our 30's and trying to pick the best life insurance policy. What is better, term or whole life?

1. Depends. If you have no kids, I'd think term. However if you wish to provide for children whole would be better as term gets too expensive after age 45 or so.

In that case, term insurance is the best. The insurance need is only for a period of time Whole life is good where the need is more permanent. I would recommend whole life to cover your funeral costs. One thing to remember is whole life is more expensive than term insurance. However with whole life the premium will never change.
3. Neither. What's best, depends on what you want it to DO for you. Before you can select the appropriate tool, you have to DEFINE the job you want it to do. Otherwise, you're just going to get SOLD something, and a few years down the road you might realize it's not what you really need, after all.
