Is this a good deal on a 2003 subaru WRX?
$9000 from a private seller. firm on price. Car has 86k. brand new clutch and flywheel, 2 sets of tires/rims( winter/summer) inside is flawless just about, body has minor ''parking lot'' dings.. I dont know a whole lot about cars really but i had my eye on this model of car for a while.. just wondering if there is anything i should look for specifcally before i make the biggest financial decision of my life. Also any info on insurance rates would be helpfull also, Im 21 and have a clean driving record.i live in ny. car is awd. only thing i dont like is that the car is silver, i am more of a darker type color but i can't really be too picky. considering i would pay at least $1,000 to $2,000 more from a pre owned dealer lot.. ill pick best answer thanks.

- I would take the car to a reputable repair shop for a front-end inspection, and let a mechanic drive the car to see how the clutch and transmission are working. Provided that there are no issues with the engine, clutch, transmission, etc., I think 9K is a good deal and I would take it. You're right, a dealer would charge you at least $1K more for the same car in the same condition. If you do regular maintenance on the engine, including oil changes, transmission fluid changes, belt inspections, etc., you should have a sweet ride for many years to come.
- ^ like he said, take it to a shop, best case scenario a subaru certified shop. Go to this thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16 , its the tri-state region for the biggest subaru forum in the states, sign up, and ask around about the car and reputable shops to take it to, to get it checked out. People on that forum might even know the car/driver and can either vouch for its condition, or vouch against it. All things being equal, 9k for that car is a good deal, especially if it has 2 sets of rims/tires seeing as you're in new york, good for the winter. As far as insurance, it can be a bit steep, but a lot of things vary. For example, insurance for my gf on her 03 WRX in our state is 180 a month, shes 21 w/a clean record, however, for me its only $110 a month, but i'm 24 w/a clean record. If you don't like the silver, maybe wait a bit? I mean this could be a good deal, so might not want to pass it up, but if you don't really like the color, why not wait a bit? save up some more to make the biggest financial decision of your life not as big when the color you want shows up. Check the classified threat at NASIOC also, good deals there often. Good luck.
- Simply no. New clutch means the car's been thrashed - bad gear changing habits. May have fried the stock clutch. Either get the bug-eye STI (02) or the peanut STIs(03-05). Cars are big investments, the STIs are more cared for as they are more of a collectors and special (good cars tend to be kept properley). At the end of the day when you sell, you still get more than the WRX. Good Luck mate.
