What life insurance is best for a husband and wife who are newly pregnant?

My sister and her husband just found out they're pregnant, and now her husband is researching life insurance. Which is best for a new family? They make average income for a couple.

1. Whatever they can afford without putting strain on the monthly bills. We have enough life insurance on my husband to bury him and to pay about a years worth of bills and that's it. But we assume with a year I can grieve and go back to work. My parents have far more insurance on themselves, but they also have mortgages. In this economy it will be hard to sell their home if something happened, so more money is required to continue payments until a buyer can be found.
