What is the best life insurance policy to go with?

What is the best health insurance and life insurance policies to go with? I am recently out of the military and need to purchase an individual health ins policy. However, I am not sure which ones are the best. I am a student, do they offer any good student policies? Also, is the SGLI to VGLI conversion a good change to make? If not, which is better term or whole life insurance policies?

1. i would say not a "death" insurance policy, but a "survivor" policy. it is cheaper to pay life insurance, die, and you get nothing but buried (your family gets paid) better would be this. a life insurance policy that pays your family if you die before age 65 BUT pays YOU a bundle when you HIT 65; seems to make makes more sense. i don't know the terms in the industry, but a good insurance salesman could tell you what this is. i looked at such a policy, promised inflation adjusted payout, but i could not pay (i think) about $2000 a year. maybe it is less, i forget. i think it promised a quarter-million payoff. 80k paid over 40 yrs would triple your investment. good luck!
