Life insurance rates in CA vs TX?

for the same coverage (i.e. $500K 30 years term life) is life insurance cheaper in CA or in TX? We are going to be moving to TX in the next couple of months, and we want to buy life insurance. I'd like to know if we are better of buying it here in CA or wait till we get to TX.

  1. That's SO not how to look at it. You think every company has the exact same rates? They don't. And not all companies write coverage in all states, especially Texas. So you'll have to compare the rates with different companies in each state.
  2. You would have to call some agents in CA and TX to compare. Rates vary also by company, not just by state.
  3. Quick sampling: 35 y/o non-smoker, regular/standard issue - $500K 30yr term. California Cheapest: $67.78/month Top 20 companies rough average: $85/month Texas Cheapest: $67.78/month Top 20 average: $85/month Summary: NO DIFFERENCE Both are large populations so all the major companies are in there and even most of the smaller ones as well. If you were moving to somewhere like Idaho, you might not have the selection, so there may be a difference in that regard. Best bet is to call an insurance broker in each state just to make sure this website isn't missing some company. It's usually pretty good though.
