My Grandparents (deceased) took out a life insurance policy on my daughter.how can i find lost policy?
My Grandparents are both deceased, but they took out a life insurance policy on my daughter 20+ years ago. I no longer remember the name of the insurance company, but I think it was a Whole Life Policy...the kind where you pay one lump sum and it continues to increase in value and you may borrow against it. Any suggestions how to locate the company and policy?

- The policy should be among your grandparents' possessions or referred to in wills. If you cannot locate it and do not know the name of the company, there is nothing you can do.
- Assuming you have already gone through their financial files I would then - Call the insurance agent that wrote their home and auto insurance. That agent might have written a life policy or perhaps referred them to another agent. Did they have a safety deposit box? Often life insurance policies are kept there for safekeeping.
- You can try MIB. All life insurance gets processed through that company. But there is no guarantee.
- If they had a prepaid policy, SOMEONE would be getting statements on it, every year - the policy owner. It would be extremely unusual to for a great grandparent to put this kind of policy on an infant great grandchild. There is NO WAY to search at this point, unless great grandparents are recently deceased - and then the executor of the estate can look through their banking records, to see if 1. they were still making payments, usually once a month or 2. they've received an annual statement. That's it. Banking records only. You're probably asking, is there a database where you can plug a name in and search. And the answer to that is, no.
- There is no central database of policies from before the late 1990's. The only two possible ways to locate it are to look for some piece of paper that gives you a clue or to contact every possible life insurance company, one at a time.
- If you are unable to locate the policy or any of the statements that the company sends out on a regular basis. You can go to mib.com. On the lower right hand corner of the site they do have a policy locator service. However there is a $75 charge for this service.
