How much does Whole Life insurance cost?
I have a quote for 20-year term life insurance for a non-smoker for $48 a month. How much would it be a month for whole life insurance? I forgot to add that the term was for $250,000 An answer would be great, by the way.

- Depends on how much the policy is for. Any decent amount and you are looking at a few hundred a month
- Whole life is a rip off!
- Aside from the "DUH... ask your broker" answer, I'll tell you this: Who is the insurance for? Your wife? your kids? Yeah, that's who it should be for. OK, Whole life insurance you're paying a bunch of $$$ monthly, and the policy is for a certain amount, let's say $1M. You could die tomorrow or 80 years from now, the payout is still $1M. They're betting you'll live a long time, and as you age, you'll continue to pay the expensive premiums. With Term, they're betting you'll live a long time as well, but they're hoping you will be happy with the low premiums, but as you age the payout is getting smaller. As you age, your kids will grow up and get out on their own, and hopefully finance their own lives. Your wife will have all the furnishings and jewelry she might want, but you're still paying premiums for the whole life policy. Now that you've paid in "forever", the payout seems small now ($1M ain't what it was 20 years ago).. so you quit paying on it. They win. If you drop dead the day after your kids o longer need any 'financial support', your wife wins. Any insurance is over-rated. A young spouse that gets widowed will have time to find another. (Either to provide support or be a caregiver to the children). A middle-aged person has less of a potential to find another partner, but has less need of one. An old fart, like me, doesn't want another jacka$$ hanging around! Health Insurance is another "very over-rated' thing. If you have insurance, your procedure costs the insurance company $500. If you have no insurance (that you're not paying monthly premiums on), but can pay the doc, it costs $100. I spent 2 years paying $600 a month for health insurance (with a $10K) deductible before I realized that my two trips to the "doc in the box" only cost me $100 with "sample meds" thrown in. Insurance is the devil! Insurance agents are only one step above used car salesmen!! TWD
- Assuming you're in your 50s (because that's how old you'd be for a competitive $250,000 20-year term insurance at $48/month), it'd probably cost $200-$300/month. And though I'm not a fan of whole life insurance, ignore the "term is always better" responses because it's not always better if you want life insurance forever.
