  1. The company is under no obligation to "help" unless you can provide them with some evidence. They have thousands of customers and so they need something to work with rather than vague verbal recollections
  2. You have cancelled checks for "LNL"? What the heck does that mean? That's NOT the same as "liberty". Turn the check over, and you'll find the EXACT name of the depositor, and who cashed the check. THAT is the company you go to. That's the EASIEST way to find a lost life insurance policy - and the cheapest, too. To get an MIB life insurance application report, you'd first have to be executor of mom's estate, and you have to pay a $75 fee, and it only goes back 14 years for applications, and THEN you still have to call all the insurance companies.
  3. Some Companies are not helpful in situation like this one. Call Liberty and ask for Policy Owner service and have your Mom Social Security and ask them you want to find out if your Mom had Insurance. If you are positive you can always get in touch with the Commissioner of Insurance in your State and tell them to help you. If the Company gets a call from the commissioner they will realize it is serious.
