Reviews of Gerber life insurance?

Does anyone have any personal experience with Gerber life insurance, including the claims process? This is for a whole life insurance policy for an adult.

  1. In general, whole life insurance is a bad deal. You can usually get term life insurance at a better cost. The gimmick to whole life is that you get a savings component as well as a pure insurance coverage - most financial planners will tell you to buy pure insurance separately, and take the extra money you would have paid in premium for your whole life policy and save or invest it yourself. You'll likely do better, but only if you actually save! However, I don't know the Gerber whole life product specifically.
  2. I don't have any personal experience with Gerber life insurance. However, the life insurance claims process is fairly straightforward. Insurance companies require a death certificate before they will pay the beneficiary.
  3. Life insurance with cash value don't pay out cash value when you die! They say its a good way to build savings! How is that so if you lose it all and it doesn't go to anyone when you die? People say you can borrow it. Why do I want to borrow my own money that I paid for? Cash value = scams!
  4. I have no experience, but am totally turned off by their ads on TV and their mailers that I seem to get every month!
