How important is Home Insurance?

I'm in the process of buying my first house and don't know if I need insurance. A friend told me about Globe Life Insurance..any advice?

  1. Home insurance that rebuilds your home after a fire or damage is mandatory. Life insurance is only needed if you have a young family and spouse has NO means to pay bills
  2. Call your car insurance company and ask if they offer home insurance. I use Geico, which gives me great rates (the best around). And... you need home insurance. Imagine if your house would burn down. Just think about it for a second. And, if you get a mortgage, home insurance will be required. --- Leave Globe Life for those subprime people that are not too sharp with finances. Make sure you use other friends for financial advise in the future.
  3. How happy would you be about losing your home to a kid slipping on your driveway???
  4. All you need to do is envision coming home one day and seeing your entire house burned down to the ground -- the house and everything in it. If you are okay with that, and it's no big deal, and it doesn't matter if you have to buy another house, furnishings for the home, beds, electronics, clothes, etc. etc. Then you don't need to bother with Homeowner's Insurance.
  5. You absolutely need it. Unless you are paying cash, you will be required to have it. Globe life? I'd go with State Farm, Allstate, etc.
  6. Globe Life doesn't sell home insurance. Kinda like, you can't go to the doctor's office to buy your groceries. Here's a hint: are you paying cash for the house, or will there be a loan? If you're taking out a mortgage, you have to have home insurance.
