- As somebody with a mental illness, I feel I have something to add here. I was hospitalized for depression; since that time, I have found that I cannot get unsubsidized health or life insurance--to get such, I have to work somewhere where the company underwrites the insurance. Once you have a preexisting condition that is suitably severe, you are SOL. Sorry, but then life sucks like that.
- I feel sorry for you, but can't help you out. There must be a child health concern in your area that might be able help you find out. There has to be a outfit that governs insurance company's for your state and they would be able to tell you. Should be listed in phone directory or on Google.com state insurance review board
- I'm just wondering...have you checked with the Social Security offices disabilities department? They may be able to guide you. Also, try contacting your local state assistance agency and see what they are offering to people of low income. Or, you may be able to walk into their offices and pick up a pamphlet. Also, check at your local public library. You may be able to find a listing there. Then, you can check one the federal government websites. They sometimes have programs of special interest for people with developmental issues. I mean, it can't hurt to look...right?
- Try contacting your local Americans with Disabilities Act office or a civil rights lawyer. Some of the ACL lawyers are pro bono. (you don't pay) Also, I'm sure they aware of such practices and may be looking for clients for class act lawsuits against companies that practice such discrimination. Remember, children like your daughter need someone to stand up for their rights. Don't take no for an answer when it comes to her rights and needs. I am Canadian & am a disability rights activist. I have numerous disabilities, as does my "little sister," not as severe as your daughter's but, severe enough that people think they can take advantage of her. It's not right. My family took this sweet lady in 8 years ago, and since we've been advocating for her, she's started to get the things she should have had, to begin with. It's not easy, but very rewarding. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
- Not sure about life insurance but there certainly are alternatives to health insurance for your daughter with disability. Depending on what kind of coverage you are looking for exactly (please explain further!) you could look for example into the individual membership with MySimpleCard.
- Are you in the U.S.? If so, she should qualify for medicaid by her disability alone which doesn't consider your income into the factor. Donald Trump could get it if he had a disabled child.
