How can we find out which life insurance company ...?

My grandmother died and left a life insurance policy with my mother named as the beneficiary. She died before she has the chance to tell my mom which company the insurance was with. Is there a way to find this out?

1. It's private information, so there's no database. Your mom will have to go through her valuable papers and cancelled checks, to see which insurance company she had been paying. Don't forget to file for the one-time Social Security death benefit.
2. You can call or e-mail your state's department of insurance. Your mother, as the beneficiary, would have to do the asking. The state dept. of insurance would let your mother know with what company the policy was taken out. Good luck, and my condolences for the loss of your grandmother.
