Is there any life insurance company that covers pre existing cancer?
My father in law found out he has cancer and wants to get a policy. Is there any company that will cover him?

- Is money no object? If he wants to buy a $100,000 policy for $110,000 to avoid $50,000 in estate taxes, sure he can. If not, he might be able to get $5,000 of guaranteed issue coverage - however, they only pay out, after you've paid in at least 24 payments. You have to live at least two years, to collect, after the policy starts. Mutual of Omaha does this, and so does Globe Life. Obviously, it's the most expensive way to buy a tiny amount of insurance.
- You get a life insurance policy when you're healthy to protect against a risk which could happen in the future. As much as I sympathize with your father-in-law's situation, you don't get a life insurance policy after being told you have a terminal disease without paying through the nose. If you were an insurance company, why would you offer a person that policy? It's like getting flood insurance on your house after the weather service says hurricanes will be in your area within a few days. Aside from the original question, cancer treatment today is better than its ever been. Depending on the type of cancer, your father-in-law has a very good chance of living many more years and perhaps just as long as had he not had the cancer. Forget the life insurance - the amount you'll pay will not make any sense compared to the amount it will pay off. Good luck.
- If he is not confined to a hospital, he may be able to get a guaranteed issue policy. Otherwise, he will have to wait until a few years after his final treatment to consider a standard company. But yes, if a standard company took him, it would cover death due to cancer as well. If you pay in as much as the death benefit, it is called an annuity, not life insurance. This might also be an option if he has wealth transfer issues and his prognosis looks grim (of course I hope it doesn't).
