Who can be contacted to see if someone else is using my son's social security number?

My son is 21 years old & about 4 months ago he started getting AARP mail, life insurance offers for senior citizens, & he just received a happy 65th birthday card from UnitedHealth Rx. At first we thought it was funny....but now we are wondering if there has been some sort of mix up somewhere.

  1. Start by contacting the credit rating bureaus, and then contact the Social Security Administration to verify your son's data.
  2. He needs to request a copy of his credit report, you are allowed one free per a year. Check for any inquires from banks, credit cards, etc, to see if someone has or trying to steal his ID. On the other hand, if this is just mail, it could of been done as a joke by a friend. Hit websites for senior citizens related needs, sign up his name, address, for literature to be sent, etc. -result he is getting bombarded with useless mail.
  3. Any skip tracing company can run your son's ssn to see if any other name is attached try http://www.cyber.holydatacorp.com/ with a form or two you can request a SSN search i believe
  4. First I would need to know if you have any identity theft protection for him and I would say contact kroll america. But just email me for more info
  5. it is nothing but just a mix up only, just you tell all these thing to your insurance company they will correct it
  6. all you know from what you wrote is that he is getting mail addressed to him so it is just as likely he gave out his contact info maybe for some million dollar prize or a free gym offer or anything he gave his mailing address for
  7. It could be something as simple as a mixup with similar names. I irregularly receive mail for a girl who has the same uncommon last name, but unlisted phone number and is totally unrelated. She moved to my town with her brother (who has since died), but it started while they were living in a distant suburb. I likewise have an unlisted phone number, so I have no clue how anyone associated my address for her. I have never even met her, but tracked her down by e-mail to foreward some of the possibly non-junk mail to her.
  8. Report fraud to Social Security hotline shown below..there are phone numbers and lots more on identity theft that Social Security can help you with.
  9. He needs to order a copy of his credit report from www.annualcreditreport.com and they will check up on it.
